HELP- FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE LIGHT ON
Of all days my Jag would have to break down in the middle of nowhere- it happened yesterday, Christmas day, after the "Failsafe Engine Mode" amber light came on- proceeded to drive with caution (unsure of what may be wrong) until the red failsafe mode light came on and I limped a long way before it just wouldn't go.
I checked the owners manual and it said mechanical or technical fault usually- has anyone experienced this before and what was the cause ?

it can be many things from misifres excessice, to brake switch, throttle body, gas pedal, trans malfunction and on and on. but when this happens the best thing you can do is pull over, shut it off, and restart, if it doesnt see the fault again it will drive normally again, if it does it will reset limp home again as soon as it sees the fault again. you need to see what codes are retained and then go from there with diagnostics and repair
Thank you so much for your encouraging diagnosis- let's hope it is nothing too serious, as we all know these Jags can suck you dry
Will let you know what they find !

Hi
I had this problem mid december, it didn't break down, but I pulled over andcalled the RAC. the engineer put it on his laptop but could find no fault and when the car was started again, no warning message.
Then on christmas day, happened again. intermittent warning message for about 24 hours and now fine again. I have noticed that one of my brake lights in off/on faulty.
Could this be the cause?
Thanks

Hi I've got a 2000 3lt V6
I've had an engine fail safe mode problem for 2 years now which comes and goes.
For me the fault is worse with cold weather.
I'd have fixed it but it won;t stay broke long enough.
The fault is down to the accelerator pedal or the harness/connector.
When the amber light comes on the trick is to take you foot off the gas for a few seconds and it goes away. Hold it for too long and it switches to red and goes to idle speed.

I took it to the mechanic and he put it on the diagnostic machine and it showed up that the Throttle Pedal Sensor had an issue- they cleaned it and did a few things to it and it is absolutely fine now.....thank god !
