Default help needed . restricted performance

Right what happened is the nipple at the top of the coolant expansion tank snaped (seems to be a common problem) so i ordered a new one from the dealer and fitted it, no problem there.
But now the engine light has come on and its says restricted performance.

There is steam coming from the front when its hot but i dont know if this is the water that leaked eveywhere before, And the coolant does not apear to be going down.
The car is a 2003 STR with 43000 on the clock.

Can i drive it to the garage with the engine light on if i take it carefully.

Thank you for any advice.

Maybe, but maybe not. Without an expert who's with the car I suspect no-one can say.

The big question is why the RP. It could be a fairly harmless sensor that's confusing the car (in which case it'd be safe to drive) or it could be something very serious. Again, no way to know that I can think of without being with the car.

If you've an OBD tool with live data you might look for codes but if no codes then look at the vital sensors looking for something amiss - to get clues.

I believe the STR does NOT have a CHT so cannot take the kind of evasive action that is attempted with the 3.0 to try to prevent engine overheat (shutting down cylinders), so driving could potentially cause warped heads. RP is about all the car can do instead.

You may "just" have an air lock but that can be serious.

I hope someone else has ideas.

Let the motor run to evaporate residual coolant that leaked from tank failure then re-install. If steam persists after a good amount of time lapses, then a coolant leak persists. Check the air intake tube connecting to airbox and air intake plenum, even inspect the small pipe running from air intake hose to drivers side cam cover. Be sure the airbox is set-closed properly. Did you clear the code using a code scanner re-set tool?
