Help! Stuck in park yet again!
So my 2001 S Type is stuck in park...I recently had to replace the broken plastic piece inside with the much newer and improved aluminum version. Now my car is stuck in park again and I have tried to jack the rear end up...didnt work.....tried to rock the car.....didnt work. Pull the console apart again and the shift lock solinoid still seemed to work. When I pulled he thick shift cable that is attached to the ball that moves forward and backwords I realized it was not moving at all. The shifter moves freely without it attached so I now know the problem is in the cable somewhere? Not sure what to do now tho....is it an easy fix? or have it towed to a shop in town? thanks for any help!
Thanks for the info motorcarman! I just had AAA come tow it to a local shop so ill be sure to get the info to him. I tried every trick of the trade I thought and couldn't get it to budge
My gear selector usually gets stuck when I am parked on an incline. Today's incline was a bit too much for the Jag I guess. I wasn't able to negotiate it into gear and the shifter now sails easily up and down without getting out of park. I guess towing is in order
Don't be silly that's an emergency brake.
I suppose getting the gearbox stuck could be classed as an emergency. ;-)

It's both, but the clue is in the name: park (or parking) brake. The EPB, similarly, is Electronic Park(ing) Brake. Yes, for emergency if required, but only if.
I expect you were joking but the problem is that so many owners just do not read the handbook or take in what the parking brake is for!

You're right but all owners of a car that has been out of production for 8 years should know by now that for them, parking on a hill is an emergency, or soon will be.
Not really for S-types of the model years mentioned in Motorcarman's tsb posting. It doesn't take much of an incline either. Parking in a driveway with less than a 1 in 50 incline has raised the need for pushing the car ahead while someone pulled it out of park.
whenever you change out the plastic piece for the metal you have to lube the slideing mechanism really well. It will tend to bind and stick badly to where you cant get it in gear...been there done that. speaking from experiance on that
That makes sense. Hate to admit on here but.... parking brake does not work. It won't click when I pull it up and it just goes back in place.
