Default Help! Stuck in park yet again!

So my 2001 S Type is stuck in park...I recently had to replace the broken plastic piece inside with the much newer and improved aluminum version. Now my car is stuck in park again and I have tried to jack the rear end up...didnt work.....tried to rock the car.....didnt work. Pull the console apart again and the shift lock solinoid still seemed to work. When I pulled he thick shift cable that is attached to the ball that moves forward and backwords I realized it was not moving at all. The shifter moves freely without it attached so I now know the problem is in the cable somewhere? Not sure what to do now tho....is it an easy fix? or have it towed to a shop in town? thanks for any help!

Your problem appears - on here - to be extraordinarily rare if not unique. Here's hoping someone knows.

There was a TSB for the faulty older cable.
Here is a TSB for the newer part number that might be superseded yet again.

Unhappy Same thing's happened to me...

My gear selector usually gets stuck when I am parked on an incline. Today's incline was a bit too much for the Jag I guess. I wasn't able to negotiate it into gear and the shifter now sails easily up and down without getting out of park. I guess towing is in order

I think the trick is to use the parking brake and not allow the car to roll onto the gearbox pawl.

Don't be silly that's an emergency brake.
I suppose getting the gearbox stuck could be classed as an emergency. ;-)

It's both, but the clue is in the name: park (or parking) brake. The EPB, similarly, is Electronic Park(ing) Brake. Yes, for emergency if required, but only if.

I expect you were joking but the problem is that so many owners just do not read the handbook or take in what the parking brake is for!

If you want to play some more, it could also be the Emergency Parking Brake

You're right but all owners of a car that has been out of production for 8 years should know by now that for them, parking on a hill is an emergency, or soon will be.

Not really for S-types of the model years mentioned in Motorcarman's tsb posting. It doesn't take much of an incline either. Parking in a driveway with less than a 1 in 50 incline has raised the need for pushing the car ahead while someone pulled it out of park.

whenever you change out the plastic piece for the metal you have to lube the slideing mechanism really well. It will tend to bind and stick badly to where you cant get it in gear...been there done that. speaking from experiance on that

The new part won't stop it sticking, it just stops it breaking.

You need to apply the brake when parking on an incline.

That makes sense. Hate to admit on here but.... parking brake does not work. It won't click when I pull it up and it just goes back in place.
