Help with these few questions????
Hello to all! I have a 2002 Jaguar Type S 4.0 and have a few question about it that I hope can be helped.
I have a New Exhaust System put on it from Quicksilver Exhaust (Purchased from Paramount Performance)that sounds pretty sweet but would like to have it a bit louder. I was wondering if theses little Resonators/Silencers that are on the pipes will make a difference or will it do more harm than good like setting off the service engine light?
I have also put a K&N Air filter (Told from Paramount that the Air Induction does nothing for power and they did a test to find out)on it and am sending the ECU to Paramount Performance to have the ECU remaped andwas wonder what elese can be done or am I taped out on the Performance end for a standard Type S 4.0.
Now on a different subject. I have what apears to be the sound of aHelicopter that gets louder when uping my speed on the road that apears to be coming from the left side. My thought is the Hub but wanted some other opions before tearing into this. The sound is more like a truck running Supwe Swampers and going down the Highway but not near that loud more like if the windows are up and the radio down you can hear it.
When the A/C is on I hear a high pitch tickingnoise coming from the A/C system and was wondering if this is normal?
Does the cooling fan come on and stay on once the car gets warm because the moment my car gets warmed up I have a cooling fan kick on and not go off weather the A/C is on or not.
Thanks and sorry for all the question but need help with these.
Donny

RE: Help with these few questions????
I can answer your exhaust question.
Resonators are usually in place to help muffle the sound output. I should know I got a dual exhaust off an SVT Contour for my Contour SE and removed the resonator in place of a straight pipe. It sounded horrible. I got way too much drone. If you're from a colder climate, it's even worse in the winter time. If you like sounding like a ricer than this is the way to go. [:'(]
My suggestion is to go for a straight pipe from a manufacturer like Magnaflow, and replace that w/your current resonator. Or perhaps a glass-pack if you're looking for louder. This should not throw a lean code. Before you do this, I'd rather have someone more experienced w/the S-type confirm this. It also depends where your O2 sensors are if they are indeed far downstream past the catalytic converter.
Well, IMO an air filter shouldn't throw a car very off. If you reset the ECU a la disconnected battery for 20mins, you should be fine. Ehh other suggestions for power-adders, get a chip burned and take it to a performance shop and get the ECU reflashed, headers, lose as much weight as you can out of the car. These are basic add-ons before going into things like forced induction.
Another suggestion that many often forget is maintenance of the vehicle. You'd be surprised how caked your intake manifolds are w/carbon. Things like that can free up some extra ponies.
Sorry, can't help you with the other issues, I'm not very familiar w/this platform.
Good luck!
