Default High Milage for a 4.2?

I just clicked over 75K miles on my '06 STR driving to work today. Anyone know of someone that has 200K miles on thier 4.2L?

Just curious....I've had the car for a little over three years and I usually keep my cars for 8-10 years.

I always use full synthetic and take care of any minor issues that come up. I'll drive with the radio off sometimes just to listen to the car and feel how it's running. To be honest, the only part I've had to change on it was an O2 sensor. I'm hoping to be able to keep it till it hit's 200K......

Well, there's a current thread of a 4.0 with 200K and the 4.2 is a slightly improved variant so why not. But.... the STR is a more complex thing. Highest I can recall was about 135K.

Well just search a bit as someone just past the 200K mark and documented it with a cool picture of the odometer showing 2 and all zero's.

hollywood..., my 03 STR has 135k miles on her clock. The motor is sound, doesn't leak nor burn oil, and continues to kicks the unsuspecting's butts. Last week; though the trans. didn't fail, rough lower gear changes caused me to have her trans. rebuilt. She'll be ready soon. You're 06 STR will give you many years of enjoyment, even with 200k miles. You're on the right track in taking care of her.

I remember when the new V8 was launched (4.0litre), the advertising blurb did mention that Jaguar claimed the engine was good for 100 thousand miles without needing any major work. When the 4.2 was released it was further refined.....

Yes... they were a little wrong for the 4.0, due to the tensioners not being up to the job (*), but the engines are basically very good.

(*) I think the 3rd gen (metal-bodied) are when they got 'em right

According to this article I found https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...nsioner-47154/ they changed to the 3rd gen/version of the tensioner in Apr 2005. My car was manufactured in Jun 2006, so unless my motor had been sitting on the shelf for over a year, I shouldn't expect any timing chain issues for a good long while..

Yep... that would be my Jag!

I wouldn't worry about the 4.2 - I use Mobil 1 EP synthetic on my 4.0 and change it at 10K mile intervals. As long as you take proper care of maintenance (oil, trans, suspension, brakes and allignments to name a few) and the occasional "big issue" that may crop up you should be good to go!

Yep, now that I have 75K on the car, I'm going to see what's involved in flushing out the trans. I'll have to look up the procedures and see if I need any special tools...I think this is the same trans that's in the BMW 7 series. If I can't find the info on here, I'll check the Beemer sites.

Very cool........I use Castrol full syn also and a K&N oil filter. I change it every 8K miles. I'm about to flush out the power sterring fluid, brake fluid, and antifreeze also.

Thanks for all the links.
