Default How often do you wash your S-Type ?

How often do you wash your car ? Either by hand or car wash. Folks who live in areas where they salt the roads do more often I believe or at least I do ! I take mine to an auto touchless someday during the weekday and Saturday or Sunday depending which day is warmer, there has been weeks where I've gone 3 times a week LOL I just can't stand seeing my S-Type likes this (Image Below) well it's never been this bad...very minimal, but I HATE THE SALT ! I also dislike those air blowers, I drive past them and drive home and hand dry it with microfiber towels. Is their such a thing as "excess car washing" ? I'll be cutting it down to 1 wash once summer hits and by hand too !

Thanks for reading !

Haven't washed mine in about 3 months. It stays inside on days with inclement weather. When it isn't winter I typically wash it every couple weeks and wax every month or two. All by hand, with a 2 or 3 bucket system.

Our Highway Authorities in the UK also have an obsession with salt. More accurately they use salted grit which is like taking a shotgun to the bodywork.

Fortunately there has been very little snow or sub zero temperatures this Winter so there has been little requirement for salting.

Regardless of model, I've always washed my Jaguars 'as required' after being on salted roads. Generally that means hosing off the salt, especially from the wheel arches and underneath rather than any attempt to make it shine.

Factory build quality and body protection is much better now than it was in the bad old days of the XJ Series I and II but salt will find any chips or scratches in the paint and start doing some serious damage.

The Black one is twice weekly by hand, and polished 3 monthly.

It is my DD, and we have NO salt here, just HEAT and DUST.

The Silver one (hers) is almost daily, and it goes NOWHERE. At least she is happy. You know the saying "Happy wife, Happy life".

The X300, when it gets dusty. It sits idle in the side shed. Has not turned a wheel in 4 months. Someone will buy it one of these days.

It probably averages out to once every two to three weeks depending upon the weather forecast. If rain or snow is called for in the next two to three days, no point in washing the cars. Always by hand using as little spray as possible, especially around the windshield cowl. Throw in a good wheel-and-tire scrubbing at the end followed by a decent hand-dry with a couple of old cotton bath towels and I can complete the process in about 45 minutes....

Just noticed this:

Are you delberately running low pressures in the rear for better traction?

I take it to a touchless wash for ~10$ usually once or twice a week. Then I have it hand washed usually once a week and the interior done every 2-3 weeks.
I have a good friend who owns a detail company and he gives it a 4+ hr detail every few months.

Blacks a **** to keep looking nice. If I had a garage that accepted the car I'd probably not wash it near as much but currently it sits outside half the day under a tree that rains pollen down on it in dust form and the other half in a warehouse area that's dusty with who knows what in the air.

Typically I wash it after every snow storm but wait a couple of days for the streets to dry so it doesn't just get dirty all over again by running through puddles or catching road spray on the highway.

Full wash, wax, and interior cleaning spring and fall, wax and interior by hand, wash at local car-wash. Can't be OCD about a daily-driver that lives outside in New England...

The guys in OZ have it so easy (just like those in California...)

Around here, there are properties that run auto sprinklers every night to keep the lawns green. Rain or shine. They turn on even if it has been raining for three days and is still raining.

The problem is that they also water the sidewalks and roadways indiscrimately.

Always nice to come around a curve with a freshly waxed car to encounter another of these insanely stupid installations.

There ought to be a law ...

It can be so ... It can be so ... and greetings all from another Aussie ... you are quite accurate in likening much of Australia's inhabited coastal strip to California, but generally, I believe most of our country is comparable with the dry, arid and open country of Arizona. As Grant has said, priorities here are sun and dust protection.

But, consider this before rushing in to swap! Unlike Grant, I spend each week living on a large farm in a regional area that is exposed to plenty of native fauna and agricultural enterprise. While snow and road salt blight your roads, bird poo and cow-pats are a constant hazard for us. Indeed farm life was the major reason we sold down our collection of fine Jaguars over recent years. As something of an expert now on various animal excrements, and the damage they can wreak on body paint and bright work, our cars get regular hand held high pressure spray clean and hand finish (say twice per week for the DD; as required for farm vehicles) then monthly wax. Jaguars are banned from the farm to avoid as much of this hazard as possible.

Now we divide our week to include our new home in our nearby regional city, and we are restocking so to speak. We are still in the business of growing beef steaks on the hoof at the farm; while a select pride of Jaguars now share our town home and thus avoid as much of this excrement as possible. To each his own, I guess.

Cheers,
Ken

I hand wash mine once a week. Rather its dirty or not, just a habit. Summer time is pretty hot, meaning traditional wax usually melts off within a week. Thats the down side. The good side is we don't get any snow, so no salt. Although every year there is a chance that dust picked up from Africa of all places, finds its way here and coats the car no matter how often you wash it. Other then that we have to deal with alot of pollen during spring and summer time, which just means the cars always look dusty, depending on the color of the car.

My black one stays clean for a few miles out of the car wash only... seems to be an absolute dust magnet! The neighbours cat walks all over it each night, birds use it for target practice and if I leave it for a few days, spiders have a field day around the mirrors!!!

At least for that 15 minute drive from the car wash, it looks good.

Cheers,

I wash my black jaguar s type r everyday before work at 9am I'm usually the first car. I have an unlimited car cash package only .25 miles from my house. $32.99 a month. I spent $159 in a 2 week period when I first bought her. such a relief.

Be careful of the paint then. Car washes can be rough and you're sending your's through at lot. How many times a year to apply wax. In your case it probably should be every couple of months.

Before I purchased a monthly car wash membership for $28 a month I was paying $10 for a single wash and about 2-3 times a week..was well over $100 a month, not as bad as your $159 every 2 weeks but still quite a lot for car washes LOL

I sometimes have to wash my car every day. Unfortunately it sits under a Maple tree which the power company has now trimmed it because it's touching the power lines above my driveway. So sap drips constantly when it goes from cold to warm. It will hopefully end later in the spring. If not, I'm going to have to buy a car cover. As far as the salt is concerned.. yes, we've had lots of snow this year so there is a ton of salt on the roads and when ever it's wet I have salt and grime all over the car and of course the sap.
