hi , i have just removed an replaced both bottom ball joints , an i thought it was fairly easy , all you need after removing the knuckle is a press , an a couple bits of steel , i built my 5 ton press a few years ago out off 40x75x40x5 C channel good for small jobs , this time i used an 8 ton jack, ok here we go
knuckle an ball joint out ready to press
as you can see i have added some angle iron for a bit more strength , held with a G clamp , you will need at least 90mm gap to fit the knuckle up from the bottom of the press ,ok stuff you will need 3x flat bar 50x8mm an 2 bits of pipe 1st 30mm high x60mm OD the other 45high x 60mm plus . this pipe will need to be cut an spred , i did it with a large socket ,a bit of square tube will come in handy , it will make more sence as we go , don't try an hurry it take your time an do it 1st time , when you get to press the ball joint out , you will need the steel flat bars & pipes
2 bit of steel pipe 60mm OD,
2nd pipe same size OD , but cut an opened up the clear the ball joint when being press out
now here is what to do , fit the knuckle up from the bottom of the press , insert a bit of flat bar to hold in place making sure there is just enough clearance so the the pipe with the cut will let the bottom of the ball joint thru the bottom of the knuckle, best to do this 1st sorry 4got heheheh
now make sure you have every thing square ,
ok do what is in the pic , an press the smaller bit of pipe on top onto the ball joint or do it this way
ok now it out , do the reverce to install the new ball joint
this time the smaller bit of pipe is on the bottom, pipe with the cut on the top , take your time an make sure its all square an don't try an press it all the way with out checking 1st press a little then check it
just press it a little then check , if its square then go for it
handy bit of square tube
i hope this will help some of you people , an i use AMSOIL GREASE , this is gotta be the best thing since sliced bread heheh , do some searching on it , you will be happy i know i am . cheers
