What is an IMT? I gather it means inlet manifold tuning valve. But how does it tune? What does it do?

Inlet or intake, yes.

I think the underlying issue is how the air flows.

It pulses - caused by the way the cylinders take in air.

Also, air (like everything with mass) has inertia.

So it's to do with impedance matching, sound, efficiency (and probably other stuff I don't know about).

There must be pages about this stuff if you do web searches...

Oh I see. It's like a motorcycle power valve but for the intake instead of the exhaust. Now I understand. Thank you for explaining.

Try a search for the part number C2S40669 I expect the price will have risen.
