installing an aux connection
I have a 2000 S-Type and the tape deck is erratic when trying to use a tape to connect to my IPHONE. It is hard to find a Stereo repair company in the Coachella Valley (Indio, CA) and I have seen YOUTUBE videos that show how to install a CD/Aux connector that would be a decent workaround.
Would love to here from someone that has done that, if so successfully.
Thanks.

I cannot remember what brand/model i got. Its been 2 years. I saw one in utube and ordered. They are cheap anyway. I am sure the new models/brands will be better. I am happy with mine but maybe will get a new one with more usb ports. We only have one lighter socket.

Sorry friend, wasn't trying to leave you on a cliff hanger. But having a 6 changer and a pre-2002.5 model is where I could potentially help.
Easiest Solution
If you have the cd changer, there are devices you can purchase which will take the place of the changer and provide you an aux input. This will render your CD changer inop; (See here) I use this solution in addition with a bluetooth receiver and find it fantastic.
Now be aware, the audio feed coming from the CD changer to the headunit is digital, not analog. This means you cannot simply tap into feeds between the two and need a box (as in the listing above) to act as a middle man.
Option 2
The feasibility of this option depends on your electronics experience. A quick google search will yield countless articles showing how folks have tapped into the pre-amp circuit feed coming off their tape decks and used these as an aux input. It does require the disassembly of the head unit, but with the plethora of information out there, it can be done with some patience. I would HIGHLY recommended visiting a pick a part and purchasing a practice unit before attempting to modify your current headunit.
Option 3
Pre 2002.5 S Types use Ford's standardized headunit platform. (You may have noticed the similarities to other FoMoCo models). There are sellers on eBay with modified versions of these headunits with an added aux input. This is acheived by tapping into either the preamp circuits for whatever input is available, whether it be the turner, tape deck or CD player. This is the toughest option, as older decks (such as the one used in the early S Types) aren't typically listed. However, I have seen vendors who will modify your existing deck for a fee.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.
