Hi All, Greetings from Singapore,
I have a problem with my Jaguar S-Type 2.5L 2005 model, everything was fine until I did my oil change 2 month ago. What my workshop did was, flush my engine before oil change and fill with 5w30, Thing was great when I left the workshop.
But when I start my engine after its been sitting overnight or for a few days, I hear this rattling noise coming from the engine and it goes away after about 10 seconds.I went back to the mechanic, but he was not able to help me. After a month I had my oil change again, but the rattling noise is still there.
I read through this forum that it could be the VVT Unit, what I don't understand is what is the VVT unit, Is it the Camshaft Adjuster Magnet or the Camshaft Timing Solenoid Sensor. Which one do I have to replace. Help please.

Reason: Emphasise Model & Year
I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Center to S-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Before you go into full panic mode, there may be a simple fix. Could be 5W-30 oil is too thin for your climate, especially if the engine has high mileage. I'd try switching to the heaviest grade specified for your car and see if that helps. On my '02 3.0 V6 (250,000 miles), I tried running 5W-20 and started getting an intermittent fault code for the VVT system. I then switched to 10W-40 and all has been well since then.
With any luck, the fix could be that simple. And next time somebody suggests an engine (or transmission) flush, tell them ,"NO!" Sadly, I've heard too many stories of new problems starting after a flush stirred up old sludge. Normal amounts of sludge won't hurt anything, sitting harmlessly in the bottom of the oil pan.
