Default Jaguar S-Type Year 2000 3.0L V6 won't crank

My Grandad owns a Jaguar Style V6 3L here in Jakarta , and a little about a year ago we started having problems with it. The car won't crank . We have brought to a repair centre in which we had already replaced the Fuel Pump , Starter motor and placed a brand new battery . Still. No crank. The car has been sitting in the garage collecting dust as we speak but it'd be great to know the solutions to these problems and steps on how to do it. Here is a video I have uploaded to YouTube : https://youtu.be/G6y0M0GXk-U

Firstly welcome to teh Forums. Please do an Intro in teh New Members Area when time permits.

Video dont work for me.

No matter.

Terminology gets fuzzy in different locations.

By :"wont crank" do you mean the engines fails to rotate at all, OR, it rotates with the starter but fails to fire???????

Once that little item is cleared up, answers will be better made.

I was able to see your video, It looks like you are getting a "steering" message, which I suspect is that your steering is locked. If the steering is locked, you have a security/PATS issue.

What is the red light on the top of the dash near the windscreen doing when you attempt to start? Is it flashing, or does it go out after a few seconds? If it is flashing, what is the sequence?

+1 on PATS issue.

What is the voltage across the battery terminals?

I believe its about 12 Volts. As it is a brand new battery.

I wasn't able to see the red light as that video was taken about a year ago and the battery now is currently dead . I believe we have managed to unlocked the steering lock although I'm not sure what the repair shop did to the security part.

Did you use a voltmeter to check the voltage? Just because a battery is 'new' doesn't mean it's fully charged.

If there is less than 12.6 volts across the terminals after the vehicle has been shut off for ten or more minutes, the battery is suspect. A failing or weak battery can cause numerous issues on the X200.

I just remembered I think 12Volts was the Old battery ( Which we though was the culprit so we replaced it with a brand new one) and it was reading about 12.7-12.8 volts for the new battery . Again , that was a year ago. .. Now the car is sitting in the garage rotting which I hate to see. We've tried to turn it on in the repair shop right before it was sent back with no luck. We ran an code scanner across the car and the current one states it's the immobiliser , and a replacement for it will cost pounding £1100 (Yes you read that right ) . My hopes aren't really that high now as previously when we ran a scan it says that the steering was the culprit , then the fuel pump , then the fuse then the starter motor and now this ... We've replaced so many parts I can't even remember them . And it's still not cranking.

Have you put a "smart" charger on the new battery yet? If it has gone totally flat, it may not even take a charge at this juncture; that said, you won't know unless you try...

Yes I did and the charger itself said the battery was already beyond repair .... The cell itself was white.

You are frutrated for sure, and I dont wish to add to taht in any way.

When you get some volts into the thing, turn ON the Ignition, look at the "P" on the gear selector quadrant. It MUST be lit up RED, and if it is, then the starter lockout is NOT the culprit. If it is NOT lit up, the starter lockout is causing the no crank.

ALSO

When the key is inserted into the ignition switch, a SMALL flap is pushed to one side, and that small flap movement activates the steering unlock procedure. That flap, and the switch is activates, gets cruddy, and does not do what it is meant to do, and as mentioned reeks havoc. My Black car was lazy here, and some liberal sprayng of Silicon Soray sorted it quickly.

An OBD reader will not really show too much, as the battery has been out, and most codes would have dropped off.

Good luck.

Worth checking OBD as many do not lose codes even with battery off.
