After putting on some miles ~200 miles, noticed couple things. Fuel gauge or the fuel sending unit must be inaccurate. First I thought this Jag was chugging fuel so when it dropped to a little under 1/4 tank, went to fill it up and only required 10.5 gal. I know the fuel tank was replaced by original owner under the recall, anyone else had similar issue?

It's hard to say so don't do anything yet. The mileage calculation is an average so be sure and reset it since you just got the car.

Give it more time and miles then report back.

I am thinking maybe fuel sending unit in tank is bad? Car was driven low miles (approx. 4500 per year). Maybe needs some cleaner or replacement. Not sure what else would be causing the fuel gauge to be off or this car is really chugging fuel (fill up with shell vpower and this time tried mobil). From what I can tell now seems like every gallon burned drops a mark making it look like approx 10 gal fuel tank capacity with fuel gauge behavior.

Not sure if coincidence with fuel gauge but speedometer appears to be off. Reading 85ish when most likely around 70mph.

That sounds like wrong overall wheel size - what are they?

My transmission fluid comes out so clean that hospitals use it to clean operating rooms.

Right now has snow tires/rims 225/55/16 (didn't drive on original wheels since snow hit shortly after I bought car). Is this enough to throw it off, seems to be about the same as factory wheel setup.

The stock tire on your car is 235/50/17 Comparing that with what you've got for winter tires gives the following

The differences being minor.

I found the calculators here if anyone is interested.

thank you Mikey! From what i can tell, mine is off probably 15-20 mph when i am around 65 mph as the speedo reads around 85mph. Right before I bought the car they replaced rear pads and rotors. Could it be possible that a sensor was damaged? Does the abs sensor on these cars link to speedo?

A puzzle - about 2% doesn't explain it

Unfortunately, which leads me to believe might possibly be a sensor.
Also, I am wondering if the fuel gauge reading might be a leveling sensor gone bad.

A bad sensor would lead to an ABS fault warning. I forget the exact process, but it is possible to put the instrumentation into engineering test mode (I bet JagV8 knows it by memory) which will allow vehicle speed to be displayed digitally on the warniing/info panel. That might indicate an error with the speedo head itself.

BTW- how are you measuring actual vehicle speed?

To place the instrument cluster into Engineering Test Mode, do this:

1. Press and hold the stalk trip cycle button while turning the ignition from position 0 to position II until ENGINEERING TEST MODE is displayed on the message center display. The stalk trip cycle button must be released within three seconds of ENGINEERING TEST MODE being displayed or the instrument cluster will exit the self-diagnostic mode.

2. To navigate forward through the instrument cluster self-diagnostic mode tests, press the trip computer MLS/KMS button.

3. To navigate backward through the instrument cluster self-diagnostic mode tests, press the trip computer A/B button.

Thank you. Using a person in another vehicle. But I'll definitely try this technique. Also wondering if this is related to "the lurch." Because I did notice the car having the lurch when going from second to first and instead of coming to a complete stop, hitting the gas causes it.

Thank you, greatly appreciate it! Hoping to do some tinkering with it tomorrow.

Excellent info, thank you! Will try to give this a shot tomorrow. The way that the car's fuel gauge currently reads is definitely off. I fill it up and after about 10 gal fuel gauge almost empty. Haven't tried yet to see when light comes on.

Welcome,
Good find! Hopefully lol. I have an 02 s type 3.0 it only holds about 11 gallons of gas and I only get about 15 mpg in city....

Try using a GPS to get an accurate idea of your own car's speed.

The lurch has no known connection to your potential speedo issue.

I put the the car in test mode for the fuel readings and think the secondary pump might be what's causing the issue. I'll need to get the numbers again and post them up on here.

Knock on wood, other than the fuel gauge/speedo/the lurch, rest of the car is spotless (as it should be with 46k miles and maintained). Was poking around underneath and in the engine bay and could not find anything else, so I'll take the 3 small things/nuisances!
