Ok two things:
1. In test mode speed mph screen shows whatever the speed displayed on speedometer multiplied by 10. For example, 40 mph shows up as 400mph. Is this normal?
2. Here are the fuel readings in test mode at approx 1/4 fuel gauge mark:
Fuel driver-351
Fuel percent-64
Fuel filter 2-0
Fuel filter 1-139
Raw fuel 2-28
Raw fuel-131

It might be 40.0 MPH. In any case it seems that there is no discrepancy between the digital and analogue displays. Next test is with a GPS.

Mine is similar EXCEPT the dash speedo is consistently 5-10% higher (clearly software tweaks the values). I think this is to assist in complying with the law (which requires a speedo never to under-read).

Ha, I fixed that when I bought a set of XF wheels that came mounted with 245/45-18 tires. My speedo now reads 3-4mph low... :-)

We're talking about analogue vs. digital indications only, not actual over-the-road speeds (yet).

It would be nice to find a way to tap into the tweaking done by the software as mentioned by JagV8. My digital is pretty much spot on when it comes to actual over-the-road speed but the analogue over indicates by about 5% even with brand new tires.

Fuel driver: 1345
Fuel %: 242
Fuel filter2: 0
Fuel filter1: 227
Raw fuel 2: 237
Raw fuel 1: 181

VS previous 1/4 tank readings:
Fuel driver: 351
Fuel %: 64
Fuel filter 2: 0
Fuel filter 1: 139
Raw fuel 2: 28
Raw fuel: 131

Just an update for everyone. It appears that the speedo issue has resolved itself. I am thinking maybe due to the low miles and sitting, it just needed to be driven. Put about 1300 miles so far on it.

I think Mikey was talking about using the GPS built into the factory navigation. Pretty handy because you can have the GPS speed on the nav screen at the same time as you are looking at the speedometer.

@Jon89, I recently filled my ZF. I believe we got in about 7 quarts. what is the best way to check the fluid level?

There's a sticky about it. You need it at the right temp, engine running, car level, and the right amount coming out of fill hole.

Bingo. It's a very cumbersome procedure. Make sure whoever checks the fluid level fully understands the process, otherwise you'll be doing more harm than good. And be prepared to add more fluid if needed....

So it's been 3 months and about 3k miles of ownership (just hit 48k miles). I must say that I am enjoying it more than I thought I would (other cars are sports cars and it's been about 2 years since my last luxury car). With brand new Blizzaks this car has done phenomenal in even the freak blizzards we had this year.
Only minor nuisance are "the lurch" and fuel gauge not accurately reading entire tank.

I love the idea of updating the wheel sets of older models with ones from top of the line current ones...OEM for sure. Did that with an Infiniti Q45...adding 350Z wheels. Caddy Seville? Used chrome STS wheels. The 2002 STs look fine...but the XF ones do have appeal. When it's time to replace the tires, it might be time to score a package deal on XF wheels and tires. I assume the bolt pattern is the same...

Mine has the Ford 5-speed 5R55N automatic, yours has the more troublesome 6-speed ZF.
I also own a 01 S Type 3.0. It's Roman Bronze with barely 42k miles on it. I'm just wondering which "frequently identified challenges" you're referring to.

I've had it maintained meticulously by Jag dealerships and a private certified Jag tech.. Literally the only "issue" if you wanna call it that was a driver's side window motor that had to be replaced and was.

I'm actually getting ready to sell it shortly but I would feel awful knowing some component of the car is a ticking time bomb. Frankly, I would have to replace the part now before I sold it, just out of good faith. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Don't feel bad - my driver-side window motor went out at 36,500 miles. 500 miles AFTER the warranty expired. Coolant recovery tank, and leading hoses are a high-failure item.

The 4.0 has an Achilles Heel - plastic timing chain tensioners - in 2002 and earlier S-Types, but not the 3.0.

And Jaguar has some really nice OEM wheels. I am going to look more seriously once spring hits.

I can vouch that 18" XF wheels and tires work well on 2005 SType. You will get wider stance due to lower offset and wider tires but it looks very nice.
