How could we afford to have universal healthcare in the US? All we can afford is endless war and prisons. What will happen to the poor insurance companies?

 

When I re-booted this discussion it was because I genuinely wanted to poll folk, to help me decide whether or not to finally commit to drilling the holes in my bonnet (hood) to mount a leaper. You all helped me make up my mind (yes, the ornament is going on) for which I am grateful. But I have been utterly fascinated by the discussion which has ensued. I agree with daro31 that it wouldn't look right on the XK8. Indeed some of the comments that the leaper traditionally and appropriately adorned the sedans/cruisers, versus the sports cars made a lot of sense to me.

Which leads me to reflect on the current generation of 'Callum cars' - what does the fact the hood ornament looks so wrong on these sedans really say? Does it say that it is time for us all to move on? Or does it say the current cars have lost that certain, hard to define, panache which characterised so many of the older Jags, to which the leapers added the finishing touch? While the new Jags seem to be selling like hotcakes, and hence must be delivering what folk want, I can't help feeling a sense of loss.

For me cars like the XF just don't look great (or like jags).

 

Thanks for the link to production numbers. I agree about the XF. The newer ones are nice, but don't have the uniqueness of the S type and other older models. The newer XK is great to me, they finally made it a hatchback. I'm surprised at how few XK's were made though. Personally, I like the look of the earlier XF more than the newer ones, more streamlined. I test drove an XF a while ago, I liked the performance of the 5.0 motor and especially the newer transmission, but I think the interior of the S Type is nicer and I prefer buttons to a touch screen. What good is a dash board without a board? No more wood, or not much anyhow.

 

I agree 100%.. I don't like anything after 2008 and don't know what they were thinking but they didn't ask me.

 

 

Agreed, Warspite, XK and F-Type hit the mark beautifully. Two Oases in the middle of a rather arid desert.

 

Isn't the XK discontinued?

Regardless, they're neither saloons. The ones that are - well, not for me..
