So I'm hoping to do an LED retrofit on all bulbs in my 2002 S-Type (headlights and fogs included). I started with the reverse lights, but quickly found that they stay on even after they have been switched off. I dug around the site and found a thread saying this is normal (see link ahead); Warspite mentioned potentially wiring in resistors to help alleviate this issue. (Link to Thread) (Didn't want to dig up a super old thread) I have yet to find LED bulbs which include resistors which would work with our setup.
Interestingly, I was able to replace the license plate bulb with LEDs without issue.
I have sourced a second set of Left/Right bulb "trays" if you will? (See picture below) I was curious if anyone was ever able to do this? I've seen others mention issues with parking lights and blinkers; haven't gotten that far yet.
The main thing you need to know is that the rear lights work on a switched earth not a switched live.
What looks like an earth track on the light cluster and is connected to the outside of the lamps is actualy a +12v live feed not an earth.
The glow you get is the result of a back feed through the rear electronics module via the turn lamp.
+1 on getting CANBUS leds. I just did Lasfit colored leds for my front and rear markers and side repeaters. They work perfect for not throwing a code or blinking fast. You need to match the lamp color to the lens color. Its important. I went into the front parking lamps but removed them. The color and brightness looked wrong to me.
I did the whole interior long ago so I could see better. That came out nice.
