Default Limp Mode and Dash lit up like a Xmas Tree!

New user with an old problem. My son has my 2005 S-Type 4.0 and lives out of state. Last night the car went into limp mode and got every fault code lit up on the dash. Although it sounds like the battery from doing my research here, I understand it could be a problem with the throttle body, MAF, etc. are there any tell-tell signs that it could be one or the other? Thanks in advance!

Get it scanned and see what the codes are. Its probably a battery if there are a ton of fault messages, so get that checked too.

Battery is a LOT cheaper and far more likely. Plus, easier to change.

A battery would not set car into limp mode. Need to pull codes and let us know. do not replace battery before pulling codes. when you fine out what codes post reply.

To the contrare...A weak battery "can" light up the dash and send her into limp mode.

My past four years of Jaguar ownership have allowed many unpleasant but learning experiences...a "lit up" dash, aside from an intense solar flare, is almost pathomenotic of a weak battery. A weak battery can still start the engine, so check the battery for a weak cell(s), its terminals, and alternator, etc.

Thanks for all the replies! I will have my son throw in a new battery and report back if that doesn't work. Happy trails!

Update: My son installed a new Duralast Premium battery and all the codes disappeared, except for the CEL. Car runs fine. No way for him to get codes until the weekend. Could the battery have caused a CEL that would need to be cleared at the dealer, or could there be more going on here? Appreciate the input.

The codes would've gone away while the battery was disconnected. There is still a malfunction stored if the CEL is on. Get it scanned.

Quartz could be correct, but bet a few engine on/off cycles will likely clear the old low batt. fault that initiated the CEL.
