I wouldn't rush to blame the TB.

I'd buy a cheap OBD tool such as elm327 because they are REALLY good and cheap, then you can read your own codes and other data.

If I were going to change a TB on a 4.0 I think I'd get a used one. But this is assuming it's to blame and it may well not be. There are a lot of other things that can fail...

It's more likely to be a bad battery or coil, for example.

What about cleaning the TB itself and making sure all the connections are good?

Another Update: Installed a new battery on Monday. My son let me know yesterday that the CEL went dark on Thursday. We'll see if it stays that way, but as of now all is good and it appears the issue was a bad battery. Looking back, I should have told him to return the old battery to Autozone and have it tested. That would have told us a lot. At any rate, I asked him to take it to Autozone this weekend and have the codes read to see if there is a repeat of the P2135.

BTW...thanks again for all your help!

These cars are heavily dependant on electronics. The battery or a flailing alternator not producing sufficient current can generate the limp home mode and a ton of other codes, including but not limited to, transmission failure, brakes, DSC failure, engine failure, Cats failure etc etc.
