Hi guys,
Just want to start by saying great stuff on these boards...I have been a part of many other car forums and this one looks top notch. I have a few questions as I am very much considering buying a S type

I will start by saying I have three prospect cars, one being a 2001 X type the others being an 02 and an 03 X type:
01 has 94000 miles
02 has 88000 miles
03 has 98000 miles

1) I am not a rich man, average income, but not a bunch of expendable money, is this the right car for me? I have owned a range rover and a BMW 5 series in the past so I am familiar with high maintenance costs. WITH THAT BEING SAID, I have heard of some horroe stories about these vehicles...just wondering what your guys' thoughts are?

2) i truly love the look stance and well everything about these cars, just nervous I am not sure what I am getting myself into.

3) which, if any, of the above models would be best for me, a first time Jag owner, or is there not much of a diff. between those years' models?

4) what kind of maint. should I expect at the 100,000 or 120,000 mile maker.

Thanks for the time it took to read this and thank you even more for the time it takes to respond you will be greatly helping me out.

THANKS!

You're confusing S-Type and X-Type. Vey different cars so which do you mean?

There are previous threads to read if you Search

Are you a "avid" DIYer?

Steer clear of anything prior to MY 2003 (sorry lots of reading to do on your part). In a nut shell more problems than MY 2003 or newer.

Here is a link for some common issues, some are for pre face lift and some are post face lift:

Good luck in your decision.

Yes anything 03+. So off that list go with the 03. I would maybe expand your search for a few 03+. I'm sure if you branch out a little you will find more then just one. That way you have more options. Then you can compare them and pick the best one.

stay with the 2003 or newer. Look around at the 05-06's too.

Definitely buy an OBD-2 Can Bus scanner. It will save you some major coin in the future. And poke around enough and you will find the most common problem areas.
