Hey guys,

I am trying to locate a 2003 S Type passenger side outer cv joint kit. From what I've researched on here it looks like a pretty hard to find part. I'm not even sure if they still offer these, but I'm pretty sure the speed sensor ring is f-ed up and causing an "abs fault" and a "dsc not available" message. Please let me know if you guys know of anywhere I might be able to find one. I tried the local dealer and they said I would have t buy a whole axle and that's $830 I really don't Have at the moment.

jdanos, have you removed the wheel and visually checked to see if the speed sensor ring is indeed f*ed up? Its a pretty simple process to do. I would check this before dropping any kind of money. Maybe the speed sensor wire may have chaffed or disconnected somehow.

I would expect jag parts suppliers would have these e.g. www.jaguarparts.com (which allows you to view parts in some cases).

I wouldn't expect a CV joint to be the most likely cause of ABS/DSC. Far more likely are the sensors or wiring or especially the module (they've been known to need re-soldering).

 

ok guys, I took y'all advice and I pulled off the tire but everything looks ok the wire is intact and the speed sensor looks fine, I cleaned it off, then drove it. But the same thing happens, when I press the brakes I feel it clicking, then I get an "abs fault" and "dsc not available" message, the brakes work as far as stopping, I'm clueless. As to where to go next, any ideas??

 

First I would read the trouble codes. It sounds like maybe just a bad ABS sensor? I had a front sensor go bad on my 2005 S Type.
I am shooting in the dark without a code? Need more clues?

Clicking noise or feeling? I would start by inspecting braking system. Check calipers for leakage, worn pads, rotors. Check for any loose wires or connections. Are any codes being thrown?

 

Did you also inspect and clean the ABS sensor? A remote possibility may be a solenoid. When you press on the brakes do you here a clicking noise?

 

I don't hear it, i only feel it. I'll try and make it to an auto zone or where ever and get the codes checked. I'll let you guys know.

 

I think what you are feeling is the cycling of the ABS when the system thinks the car is in a skid? That is what fights your foot on the brake pedal.

OK folks but here is a shot in the dark.....Right after I bought my 05 I goosed it making a left turn in the rain (wanted to see how all these safety things work). And woa, the wheels started to spin and it started to slide then the DSC and ABS kicked in and corrected it. From that moment on, the ABS light came on and the message center said "DSC not available". I placed a call to the dealer and they took her in. When I got it back they stated that it needed a new brake master cylinder. I said "huh?". Wouldn't that show up somewhere else. They said that when the module triggered the pulse it sensed an issue with the master cylinder which triggered the fault messages and turned those systems off. Since it was a warranty issue, I never did pull any codes before I brought it in so I couldn't tell you what they were. After they replaced the master cylinder it hasn't had an issue. I even flogged it around empty snow covered parking lots with the DSC off and on. Everything has worked great since without a single incident. Maybe worth taking to the dealer to take a look before tearing a bunch of stuff apart.

 

I haven't had a chance to get the codes off the car yet. When these messages come up it's alwAys the "abs fault" that comes first then a few seconds later, "dsc fault" comes up, if it helps.
