Default Looks like I finally solved my steering shake issue....

so I went to the jag dealer today, usually bring my car there because I have a extended warranty. I had a mysterious shake on my car driving at all speeds for months and could not figure it out. I had alignments done, tires rotated and balanced several times and it would never correct the issue. I decided to bring it to the dealer and they said that my steering rack was not centered and they had to order a bolt kit and recenter it. I have only had the car for a few years, so whoever had the year before that did something with the rack. This was not covered by the warranty, but for several hundred dollars it was defiantly worth fixing because it was driving me insane! Hopefully it all works out and the shake is gone!

Which model & year? I don't think we've heard of this before.

2002 s-type 3.0, brought it in with a horrible steering shake/wobble I have had for months, and was told the rack was not centered and they had to order a "BOLT KIT", not really sure what he means by bolt kit. Anyways, this mechanic I used to go to had my rack off the car about a year ago and so and most likely the idiot either didnt know what he was doing, or he did not center it correctly. So Jaguar dealer told me that it was that, and a binding ball joint that was causing my issue....

If you still have the bill, the part numbers used should be on it.

Posting the numbers would help narrow down the "bolt kit" that the mechanic was talking about.

here are the part numbers for the bolts.

XR815824- CAMBER BOLT (X4)
XR817594- RIVET-BLIND BOLT (X3)

BOLTS WERE $235.10 AND LABOR WAS 290.00

Needed a ball joint as well but that was covered with my extended warranty.

I have to say I did cost quite a bit, but the car has no shake and very little vibration now! Rides like shes new!

Only other thing Jaguar told me was the right rim was bent. and that could be the cause of the slight vibration.
