Default Lost both RH wheels & tires to a pothole last night

The winter from hell got my car last night.

So it's in my driveway and I can move it around a bit but what I could really use right now is a second emergency tire/rim.

I'd like something in a hurry like tomorrow morning so I'm wondering if something off another vehicle would fit in a pinch so that I can take both tire/wheels to my tire shop at the same time.

Jack stands are non option, we have more snow coming and I'm not doing that. It just won't work where I live.

Tow truck f'ed my front spoiler and exhaust tips up as well.

GD winter!

Sorry for your trouble. I was dodging potholes last night on the way home from dinner in our S-Type. We haven't had the frequency of your winter storms, but we've had a couple of tough ones during the past month. Our roads are suffering as well, and you have to learn the damaged areas by day so you can memorize them when needed while driving at night....

I have to admit that I love a good cold winter, though. We rarely get them anymore, but this has been a good one....

No the 5x108 with stupid high offsets limits our choices. I know Volvo uses 5x108 but I dont know the offsets.

Not sure if this would help - but I have 5 - 17" OEM Rims off my 2000 S Type. Not sure if they can help (even short term) but I'm in NJ also and thought I would chime in... if so, then PM me.

Potholes suck - I had to drive into NYC yesterday and I generally hate driving my Jag into NYC - it was like going through a mine field on the Grand Central Pkway - hit some pot holes big time. Thank goodness I have lifetime alignment service.

I believe the front size will fit the rear though poorer grip etc, if you can pick any of those up. I guess the V8 NA 18" size would fit. Even a 2nd STR spare but not ideal. Our roads suck too but hopefully not quite so bad.

Brembo brakes really get in the way, in this situation if you have them.

Driving around the holes I'm going to get stopped for appearing drunk at some point.

Winter sucks, which is why my STR has been sleeping in storage all since late november...

Problem with the spare wheels, is the brembo brakes. I am pretty sure that fancy red color spare tire is designed to fit the STR's huge brembos, and no other s-type spare will interchange...

if your exhaust and front lip got damaged in the process... and considering the impact was strong enough to damage the wheels to that extent, there might be more damage you do not yet see to the suspension, etc,

This could be costly, I would really consider filing an insurance claim at this point, pay the deductible and have it all sorted out...

It's the location and the fact that more of this GD snow is on it's way. You'd have to live in this particular spot to understand why this is not a very good idea. The car has to be moved for proper snow removal or it gets very messy.

I know it doesn't sound entirely logical but the car is going to be down for at least a week possibly longer while the tires arriver, rims get repaired or replaced and everything gets back on the car. It really needs to be inside a garage during all of this and that's not very probable for me right now.

I guess you get more snow than we normally do plus we typically have no garage and sometimes no drive so have fewer options

This years it's about the conditions during and after the snow falls. Lots of cold and the snowpack is more like glacial ice so if you don't remove it as soon as it falls you're very screwed. Last three days it's been melting and I've been using hot water to melt the damn stuff too, no salt is available here!

Check your local craigslist I'm sure you can find some xf or xj rims to throw on your car.

It would appear that the 18" space saver tire/rim (orange) is the same for a number of later jags and I've located a couple quasi locally so hopefully I'll pick up one of those up tomorrow.

New tires are covered by the Continental road hazard and the rims will get refinished/fixed starting Tuesday once I can get them in the place. But I'll chew up an entire day just getting everything together.

Fun stuff ...

Both wheels are bent but not badly so they'll get straightened and refinished. The place nearby is a bit backed up due to the rash of pot hole damage around here.

A space saver spare was shipped yesterday, I hope! So I'll have silver wheels on one side and harness racing style wheels in orange on the other LOL .

I guess I could drive it a bit locally if I'm very careful but then there are all of those GD pot holes ... so I think not!

After that I need to get the suspension checked out and obviously an alignment is in order.

Looks like we need to drop alloys and go back to steel wheels
Roads are terrible here, too, and getting worse. (We pay huge road-related taxes but they go to central government whereas the unrepaired roads have to be done by local gov who have no money for it. You couldn't make this stuff up.)

I think the low profile trend at 18" was bad enough but the the even larger 19, 20 and even larger rims is just insane with this issue.

In our case the weather this winter has been the perfect pot hole making machine here. There's no way road crews can keep up wit this mess and the expense to properly repair, something we don't do like the Germans do, just isn't in the cards these days. I suspect we will have very bad roads for a long time now. We're out of money.

There was supposed to be a street version F1 race here for the NYC area and I blew out both tires on a part of road just before that proposed course. It was already cancelled for 2013 and certainly 2014 is impossible now though I think that was also cancelled.
