Mea culpa. Back in June of 2010 I purchased a set of chrome lug nuts
from a place called Golden State in California..solid chrome with the
requisite washer. Big mistake! Six months later, they are rusting
badly. Now most of my driving is in the rain, but salt is rarely used,\
except on bridges, in this area.

My opinion? Pure unadulterated crap. They looked good installed in
the summer; now, they look like hell. I'll be calling these folks Monday
intent on getting my money back. We shall see.

My apologies to any forum members who purchased from this group
based on my original post.

Hey, stuff happens. We all take risks sometimes with aftermarket purchases. As you learned, it can take awhile before we know whether we bought a quality product or not. Get a full refund and try again. I've been very pleased with my Mitsubishi lug nuts obtained at the local Chrysler dealership parts department (Chrysler used them on late-model Sebrings and they fit our S-Types as well). Since I needed a full set of 20, they gave me a bit of a discount on the set. They've been on our S-Type for nearly a year and still look new. No rust whatsoever - just a little road grime now and then that I easily clean off whenever I rotate the tires....

Other folks still like their Dorman lug nuts puchased online from rockauto.com. Either way, I think you'll be much more pleased with your next set....

 

Yup, that's what I've got. Full time exposure to nasty canajun winter weather, no signs of corrosion.

Rockauto has them and they give a discount on 10 or more. The part description lists the Chrysler part number too. I replaced all the lug nuts on both my 2003 Lincoln LS and my 2005 STR.

Chrysler MB579290 Can be ordered from any Chrysler dealer.

Also don't forget the lug wrench needs to be changed to fit the new lug nuts!

Gosh, I hope my Gorilla nuts don't rust like that. Stainless is the best but I couldn't find them at a reasonable price.

 

Dorman lugs, have been through a horrible winter here in Boston so far. Salt has been consistently on the roads for months and haven't seen a spec of corrosion yet. I also haven't washed her very often given the fact that all my spare time is with my new born. Right now she's sitting, covered in salt and grime, I can't even look in her direction. Tough to use water when its 10 degrees outside.

 

Ya win some, ya lose some, and some get rained (rusted) out. Thanks

Are they one-piece chrome? If so, post the part number. Lots of folks here would appreciate it....

 

Next time I go to the parts store, I'll get it....It should be in every advance auto store, as I did not special order them.....

 

I don't know that they aren't rusting though. The car is still under snow and it's 7 degrees out so it's more like freezing than rustin' yer nuts off at the moment.

The Dorman ones are listed as Stainless in the description. I don't have any rust yet on either car.

I apologize, last time I checked, which was a week or two ago I didnt not see any corrosion but the wheels and lugs werent very clean. HOWEVER, after washing my vehicle, I clearly see corrision (rust) happening on my less than 1 year old Dorman lugs. I apologize for the previous misrepresentation. Pictures to follow, unreal.

 

Really???? I certainly didn't see that anywhere when I looked.

 

Called Golden State Wheels in California and told them their lug
nuts were rusting badly after 6 months. They said to send a
photo and I complied.

I then received the following reply from Jeff Davies, the President.
He said he reviewed my request for a replacement and that it would
not be covered under their warranty because the warrantly does not
cover:
.corrosion
.road salt
.chemicals-including brake dust
.abrasive materials
.maintenance neglect
.water damage from sprinkler systems
He then goes to to state that they stand by their products and
would have covered them if I had submitted a claim within 30
days of purchase.

What a bunch of crap. A thirty day warranty on lug nuts?

I replied that I hoped he would like lots of publicity.

As soon as I get replacements for his defective products, I'll
make a video and publish on Youtube.

In this day and age, it still amazes me that corporations can produce
defective products and then tell the consumer to take a hike. With
Twitter, Facebook, etc., and all the various forums, poor service can
go viral in short order.

Was there a brand name for these lug nuts?

 

Nothing was stamped on the lug nuts, nor did they come
in a box/container that indicated the manufacturer. Thus, I
assume they are manufactured by Golden State Wheels themselves
and/or outsourced to China.

I removed one today and took it to a Toyota dealer since they
have a very similar lug. The corrosion on the Golden State lug
nuts was much worse that I thought. When I find a replacement
set (I'll probably go with Toyota) I'll publish a photo to the entire
set. You won't believe your eyes! Six months in nothing but
Pacific Northwest rainwater and they are pitted and rusting.
I probably should have known; the Golden State lugs had a kind
of dull finish, kind of like a very thin chrome plating. The Toyota
lugs look shiny and thick by comparison, and, with their reputation,
I suspect they will look good for years. Downside is that the
dealer wanted about $6.14 per if I purchased 20.

This thread is quite old but thanks to Cliff for posting Golden State's unwillingness to do the right thing. Message received loud and clear. I will never patronize Golden State Wheels.

About the Dormans - I see mixed reviews on the Forum. Does anyone have any more input or update on the pros/cons of the Dormans, Mitsubishi's, Toyota or the other brands? I am about to buy 1-piece replacements for my S-Types.

My S-Type's Mitsubishi lug nuts still look and perform like new after years of service. Purchased 20 of them from my local Chrysler dealership for about $5 each. Worth every penny - no rust, no issues, problem permanently fixed....
