Just saw this thread.
i had 05 STR with straight pipes.... it produced around 400 hp on the rear wheel.
but recently the sound was getting too loud. and the mrs. asked me to install a proper muffler.
so i end up installing performance magnaflow on them

below is the link before the muffler..

Okay so you buy the parts, and then take them all to a muffler shop? What should I expect to pay for the job? And what does that setup sound like at cruise?

Default Bring yer 03 STR's Christmas gifts to the muffler shop

Pushing_Tin, yes bring the goodies to a muffler shop that pipe bends. They'll simply cut out the stock cats and weld in the hi-flows. The stock up-stream and down-stream O2 sensors are plugged in just prior and aft of cats. Just aft of the transmission tail goes the x-pipe, cont. with 2 1/2" pipe. If you want universal acceptance of cabin noise during acceleration and cruise, plus minimize loss of low end torque, then this is the time to weld in 12" or 14" glass packed 2 1/2" core flow through tube mufflers ($25/each, Dynomax, etc.). Continue with 2 1/2" pipe over the rear axle to your choice of mufflers. Here again you make the decision wether to go with a flow through muffler like Magnaflow: $85/each, noticeable raspy barking noise during start up and acceleration, won't hear blower whine, somewhat quiet at cruise but a raspy bark during downshifts, some loss of low end torque but possibly a little more power on the top-end? Typical utilizer: 20's-to late 30's, borerline social degenerate that hunts other's wives, and cougars. Or a chambered muffler like Dynomax Super Turbo: $45/each, will hear 50/50 blower to exhaust noise when in combination with Dynomax pre-mufflers, maintains low end torque, built-in full throttle bypass tube for that top-end run and exhaust rap, comfortable cabin noise level. I run this set up (30's-on w/wife and kids). Terminate with 4" s/s tips (look cool, fills in the cut outs, and further tones down the "rap" for quieter outside and cabin noise. Regardless of what muffler combo. you choose, when the Muff Man clicks the Lincoln Welder off then flips up his welders eye shield sporting soot around his eyes and his clothing still smoking from the metal sparks, he'll have "this" sick look on his face...You know, that "Knowing he done something to transform this beast" look? Next, like a little kid rippin the wrapper off his first BB gun, you'll eagerly fire her to life which in turn immediately evokes a surprising visceral response leading to a slow-mo forming mischievious grin, chin to chin...the hunt begins.... Cost for install? About $500. Some here and in the XKR forum perform a hard re-set of the ECU as a means to clear out adaptive memories, then teach her their driving style. The rational behind this procedure cont. to be debated...seemed to work for me? Now go and git er dun! Merry Christmas.

yup
i agreed with risky... the straight pipes set up is loud... not to mention it will not be a street legal (at least thats what the muffler shop told me)

but setting up with the muffler is nice.. and at mid range.. 70- 90 miles it sound really nice... its not loud but sound deep with power.

i do think the magnaflow is a nice set up, even though personnaly i really like the Mina gallery STR set up, but it would cost around 300 more...

but i found it $100 cheaper on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Email them... mention you want the STR set up, and they still give the same price.

anyhow... anyone knows where to get a vulcan rims? or maybe a 18X8.5 (on all four wheels set up)

thanks

Can any of you good people post up the actual part numbers? I am trying to get an order together and am unsure of which part numbers to get. Riski has helped a lot!

Riski, I was putting some of the magnaflow parts through performance peddler, and with the discount it was cheaper than the E-bay auction was. Give it a try. I will be looking at those cats though.
