Default Map light wont go out

Hello everyone. I'm new here, and a new owner of a 2001 s-type 3.0. This car was a repo and wasn't treated all that well. Most of it seems cosmetic though. Right now after putting a new battery in it I'm finding that the overhead map light does not turn off. I'm assuming that's what killed the previous battery. I've removed the bulbs for now but was wondering if anyone knows what causes this to happen.

My '02 passenger side map light did that. The switch button was stuck, but it wasn't obvious at first. See if both buttons actually "click"...the button may be stuck, where a fine screwdriver wedged gently around the button may release it.

Tried what you said and it worked. I really appreciate it.

Nice that you didn't need to get a donor replacement, which may have had the same issue.

Cheers!

One small victory. I'm sure there is going to be a long list of replacement parts in my future. This car has not led a pampered life. So far so good though.

And one bit of good news...depending on your location, Craigslist is full of part-outs, and independent shops that specialize in Jaguars/Land Rovers can handle jobs that aren't DIY.

Besides, you'll get plenty of help here!

You're right about Craigslist. I see those ads all the time. I plan on doing as much of the work on this car as possible. There isn't strong jaguar support in this area. The closest dealer is 2hrs away. This site has been a big already.

You're close enough to Atlanta for nuclear weapons...or at least the fallout. S-Types are quite popular here...running and not. Good source if you need multiple parts from a single donor. Besides, you, like some other S-Type owners, own a pickup truck. Coincidence? One load may handle all of your replacement needs!

As FYI (for other models), plenty of X-Type part outs too. Some XJ6s, but most are in the cars for sale section rather than the auto parts area.

I've seen those. I usually use the Atlanta craigslist. So far it looks like it's mostly interior trim pieces that missing or have fallen apart.
