I have this right rear mud flap on my 2001 S-Type 4.0 and I've been looking for the matching left rear mud flap. I've searched salvage vehicles and online, but I've never seen another one. Is it OEM? I've read that they're more for aerodynamics, since they're positioned in front of the tire. Behind the front tires, it looks like I could also put mud flaps, but have never seen these as OEM either. I prefer OEM, but would look at alternatives. Thanks for your help.
I think you might be looking for XR810616 and XR810617.
I believe that some form of deflector was placed before wheels on all cars to direct salt water away from the brake disc as this was somehow glazing them.

Thanks, neilr. That looks like the right part number. They must not have sold very many, since they are hard to find. Do you think the front part numbers would be the same? I doubt it, because of their reversed (back of tire, instead of front of tire) placement.
XR810616 is the right hand side rear item.
These are easy to obtain as they are still available from Jaguar, as is the left hand item.
They cost £60.66.
They were only fitted up to VIN number M45255 that is the 2000 and 2001 model year cars.
Here is a link to the official Jaguar parts web page with this item:
so, how many flaps/spoilers should an 01 S-type have? 2 in-front (positioned after the tyres) and 4 rears (positioned before and after the tyres)? I saw a photo with this config
The first picture is the standard spoiler flap in front of the front wheel. The second and third pictures show the true mudflaps. (the ones with the cat face, behind the front and rear tires) I ordered these separately for my car. They are pretty useful and look good, too.

Personally, I would look for new ones simply because after some years they go brittle and can fail along the thinnest parts of the moulding. These flapping about against the body isn't a nice feeling or good for the paintwork! If you look around and are lucky, they can be found for not too much.

Thank you and I hear you. Seems that there are new ones available, will get those. Cheers
Sometimes they are also called Aero-Tabs.
The idea is to push the air away from the spinning tires. Helps reduce aerodynamic drag to a small degree.
Pretty common on most cars since around 2000 or so.
