A few years ago I noticed that the demistor on our 2003 S-Type was cracked in the common area where the defrost vents meet in the middle. The picture I took is not the greatest, but the best I could get. I tried taking a pic from the outside, but there was all kinds of reflections and you could not make out what was on the inside of the windshield. It actually looks better from the outside looking in. I put a black towel on the outside of the windshield to block out any light and took the pic from the inside. What you see is the result. I made a template out of paper of the part of the demistor that cracks and then got some non-skid material from Home Depot. The reason that I used it was because it is fairly sturdy and will stay stuck in place. Hopefully you can see the result after I carefully attached it to the area on the demistor that is cracked, you can even make out a very small part of the crack in my pic. In my opinion, it looks way better than a totally cracked demistor and when I show it to people they just assume that the car came that way. I made this "repair" about 4 or 5 years ago an it has held up nicely. I'd rather have a new demistor, but didn't feel like spending the money or going to the trouble of replacing it. So far I'm satisfied.
Thanks! I had to be very careful when getting it in place because of how sticky it is after removing the paper on the backside of the non-skid. I was looking into a dashboard carpet before I got the bright idea to try this. I may still look into a dashboard carpet. Thanks.
