I have spent hours and even days in frustration on some of my other Pommy cars trying to get around running problems.
I usually walk away for a day and I always remind myself to 'go back to basics' first before I come back. Usually works. Checking the Earth is one of those basics of course.
I had a very similar issue with the Earth on my Triumph 2500S. Not my actual car. Mine is metallic green.
But I have to ask as you said you were driving and the engine just died.
How could the ground lug become disconnected from that bolt while you were driving?
The connection did not look damaged?

wow great find....i bet it was on the stud loose and popped off....more than likely the coil grounds or something similar that would make the engine no spark or fuel.....enjoy

I do the photo after unscrew the bolt.
the terminal electric was broken, sometime the wire may touch the bolt so my jaguar was starting....
