Default my Scottish 2.5v6

First jaguar I have ever had, and first automatic box I own. 2.5v6. zircon and leather ivory or almond (have no idea).
It s a 2004, 81k miles and no service history. Took it today to the garage for an oil and filter change. Done 200 miles before taking it to the service.ccv issue at the moment doesn't get me annoyed. It drives ok, smooth gearbox, not noisy, not rattles or banging from the suspension. Just the squickie steering column. (But promptly bought the pas fluid to fix the issue). I like how it drives. I like how heavy it is and I don't think I would need more power under the bonnet. I didn't even go faster than 70 mph in the last 2 weeks. It is just very thirsty, much more than my 530 petrol. The bmw returns 28-35 mpg and the jag 23-28 mpg, and much slower...but other than that I like it. Still think I am to young for an old Jag (I am 35) and I would feel more comfortable driving and Xf😂.
The zf box is much more responsive in the bmw bonnet, but I guess it depends on the set up. If driving the bmw makes me want to overtake and disrespect all the rules on the road (as a proper bimmer should) the jag makes me feel more relaxed and less stressed. The gearbox is so lazy that I can't be bothered to move the gear in N at the light. And the car make me feel so lazy I don't want to move from the seat. ( I have started to read a book in the car after fighting with my future wife).
Just pissed of by the Glaswegian mechanic and garages. Since I drive a jag they feel the can charge double! F..off
I have been asked 249 to replace oil and filter (I left the garage laughing...). Ended up at the cost of 59 at my friend garage. It is not a specialist job replacing oil and filter.
I wonder if anybody knows a good place in the Glasgow area that

It's not a beneficial or normal practice to do so.

Since I am new to the autobox, I have been told by an old mechanic to move the gear to N to not add stress to the transmission. probably it was a good habit 30 years or more ago.

Actually no, it never was a good idea, ever. Not sure where the idea came from.

The gearbox in under no stress when sitting still in gear. There is some minor stress and waer when shifting from P or N into gear, so in theory, such movements should be minimized.

Thanks Mikey, you are saying the only wear is when moving from P to D or from N to P or R.
What about using the manual position down the hill or mountain? Is it better use the box to slow down or better using the brakes?

Essentially the only wear in an autobox is when it changes gears, either 1-2-3-4 etc. or when going P-D-P etc.

As to manually downshifting vs. brakes when going down steep grades, it's a toss up. Brakes are cheap and easy to replace in my mind but it would be difficult to find wear in an autobox anyway.

What part of Glasgow are you from? SWMBOs parents were from Govan, she still has family in Bearsden.
