I can't locate the navigation users manual in all my guides.
It's the older, Leaper version, but I'm OK with that.
The first thing I want to do is set my home destination - I bought it used.
Does anyone know where I can find out information on how my nav system works?
I've done a search here and several other places, and I can't seem to find it.
Much thanks!

Should be free download from jag - where the forum says the handbooks are

Jaguar very kindly allow this but stop google from indexing the site, so googling etc won't find it

Is it the same system as the XKs? If so there is a download for the latest maps (with clock) here. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-58809/page4/ post #74

Not the same, I think. Besides, he just wants the manual on how to use it.

Yes but once he can use it, he will want it to be better, much better.

For an S-Type he'll have to buy a Garmin or TomTom or the like, then. Simply miles better but sadly not integrated into the car's screen etc..

I actually have a Garmin already, but I'd just like to see the nav system working. I enjoy fooling around with stuff like that.
I checked the Jag website first thing, and they don't have it- they only go back to '07's S-Type, unless I'm looking in the wrong place.

Oh well, if you like a challenge go for it!

Worst case, register with Jag's TOPIx then you can do more (free), including selecting by year and looking for data. Lots is non-free but handbooks are free. You may need to try nearby years (start with 1999) as not everything was updated every car year (or they're absent).

I have never needed that early nav manual so I can't say I ever looked for it. But the later ones were there (just don't apply to your car).

It can be "worth" paying a 1-day fee and downloading lots and lots of data (PDFs) but plan what you want and have plenty of free time. Most is on JTIS so that's an easier way to get that stuff.

Call your local dealer. Ask them if they have any laying around in the parts dept, or if they would be willing to print you out a copy.

I registered with TopIx, and they had nothing on the Navigation system. Actually, there were no downloads available for free without a paid subscription.
I went on Google (since Jaguar doesn't have it anyway) and it led me to a site that led me right back to the Jaguar site. The latest manual was for the model 2003, which was "JAGUAR - NORTH AMERICA MAP DVD VERSION 2011-2012". Since it was listed under the 2003 model of the S-Type, could it possibly be used in my 2000?
Were there many hardware changes to the nav system from the 2000 to the 2003?

The only links I have found for the JTIS are unfortunately for Windows. I have a Mac, and I do not have enough hard drive space to partition and run a Windows OS on it.

If somebody has it in a Mac platform (Macs cannot open .exe files, but almost everything else! .Zip,etc.) I would LOVE to have a copy!

The redesign (2003 USA) cars have a very different nav. Changed from CD to DVD, too. You'd need the earlier handbook. The CD wasn't updated beyond about 2001 so you're looking at a very dated system if you get it working.

Handbooks are free but some have a hard time finding them. Jaguar are very kind to provide them free but have a terrible web site which refuses attempts to index even the free stuff and makes it even harder because it regenerates URLs - so you generally can't even post a URL within it.

The Mac was of commercial irrelevance when JTIS was created. JTIS ceased in 2004 so the Mac clearly won't be supported. Up to you whether you find a way to cope, pain though it is.

The eHow site looks to be wrong.

The other site you posted is for the DVD itself, whereas you said you wanted the handbook (and it will have to be for the ancient i.e. CD version).

If you really have a DVD-based nav compatible with the later ones like mine then I'm shocked...

No- I was grasping at straws when I went to the eHow site; desperate to find anything related that might lead me to the manual.
Thank you kindly for the info on the JTIS. I was bashing my brains over that one, too. Multitasking is apparently not my forte anymore.

It's just such a shame that the navigation system, however outdated, is unusable. But then, so is the phone hookup.
She's absolutely beautiful, however- and that will never grow old.

Well, I have a Garmin, and it's utterly superior to the Jag nav which I just updated to the 2011-2012 version. There I was on a dark road and the Jag lady said "in four-tenths of a mile, take the first road on the left". I just knew this nav wasn't for me.

I keep the Garmin on the dash right in front of me. That way, when I am approaching a junction in a strange city and trying to decipher the difference between "turn left", "stay left", "keep left" and "bear left", at least I have the road map right in front of my eyes. The Jag nav screen may be OK for cross-continent travel, but around town it's bordering on dangerous.

Wanted - a Garmin-like GPS which lies flat on the dash until needed.

That is great news, police666! I was beginning to think there were none in existence.
Let me figure out an easier way for you to replicate it rather than scanning the whole thing in (how many pages?)- it seems like a lot of work. Do you have a copier that saves to computer? I'm thinking, thinking....

ETA: I think we own the same package from your signature. Same color, even.
