Navigation system touch screen
My screen has been showing with a predominately red colour tinge now for some time. Annoying.
It would occasionally come back to full colour but stuck on the red now.
I don't know if its a connection somewhere but I somehow doubt it.
Anyone know if the XJ 350 358 (non television or heated front screen version) unit is a straight swap over? They do seem the same and a few of these for sale for around 46 pounds plus postage.

hi
This is usually the nav dvd unit in the boot, the display screens on the touch screen are generated by the dvd nav unit
when mine did this it was a dry joint on the nav dvd unit connector, stripped it and redid the soldered joints on the connector and its never done it since
cheers

Thanks Gents for your reply.
Thanks for that tip as well Joe, I'll have a look at the nav DVD connector in the boot.
I did rush out and buy an X350 screen and nav DVD unit combo that was going cheap.. Anyhow, has the later leaper on the screen ...

Hi
the green screen leaper is the earlier one and the black screen leaper is the later one
putting in a later 2012 dvd map in the unit automatically updates the leaper screen to the newer one
also the XJ screen is different, the plastic faceplate is different, might be able to swap the faceplate if all the buttons are the same, you need to swap the airbag sensor over which the xj does not have at the top of the faceplate.
cheers

All appears visually okay on the DVD connector. None of the wires appear loose. But yes you're right, the only way to see which joint is dry is by stripping the connector.
I assume by 'stripping' you mean you unplugged all the wires out of the plug and checked each one?
Cheers,
John
yes when mine did it
I removed the nav dvd and stripped it down, I redid all the soldered connection on the connectors and it cured the fault
but plugging in the used nav dvd will confirm the fault
cheers

Yes, just plugged in the recently bought used nav DVD and the screen is back to normal!
So wasn't a problem with the touch screen at all, as you mentioned. Pleasing to have full colour back on the screen.
I did not pull any of the wires out of the nav dvd loom plug to check any solder joints, just made sure this time while remounting and re-plugging that all wires were firmly pushed hard into the plug after mounting the replacement nav dvd. So could still be the plugs soldered wire joints. Only way to check is if I remount the old nav DVD unit.
Lucky the purchase from the seller included the whole, nav dvd, touch screen and CD player; off a XJ 350/358.
I did start to strip the surrounding trim off the X350 touch screen to put it in my car but not sure what would be the point now that the screen works in full colour? I don't think the screen resolution was any different between the X, XJ or S Type.
Not sure about the CD player, its probably also the same unit with a different cover.
