Need help with wheel shake/Vibration at speeds of 40mph+
hey guys.... wondering if you could help me. I hit the side of a ramp that had the end sticking up and put scraped up my driver side wheel, put a hole in my tire and dented the fender slightly, but no serious damage that would cause everything to bend at the frame. So I went ahead and replaced both front tires with brand new hankooks, and had them road force balanced and had a full alignment done. I still have the shake and vibration at speeds of 40mph plus, it gets worse at higher speeds, but sometimes feels less shakey on certain roads, but none the less, its is there almost 100 percent of the time, and it does feel like its there more now then it was before I replaced the tires. What else could I be looking at? Possibly a steering rack? etc? I do get a hiss noise when I turn the wheel slighty to the left or right, and it only comes from the driver side wheel area. Can anyone point in me in the right direction?? thank you
I did not hit it hard at all I just side swiped the car. But I guess you never know. Shake has always been there but just seems a little stronger now after I aide swiped. Can steering rack be related and cause this issue?
My guess would be you bent a tie rod. Did the alignment shop mention that they couldn't align it to factory specs? I always demand a computer print out to make sure people did their job. ( a lot of lazy people nowadays)
hey fresh, thanks for your input, no they did not say anything and they are usually pretty good. They always do a print out but this time the guy said the printer was down. I wonder if maybe the rack itself may be bad inside?

Lots of things to have checked. I was a mechanic and collision tech for 35 years. 1.) balance the tire and rotate front to back, etc.. 2.). Lift the front up, have a tech check the tie rod end and the bearing on the hit side.. This is easily done by grabbing the tire at the the 3 & 9 positions, and pul in and out. Same for the 12 & 6 positions. You should not feel any play. 3.) the wheel could be bent, so rotating should make it go to the back.
Try these, but, it sounds like a either bearing or tie rod. Could be an inner tie rod too. Try these and get back to us.

hi bob, already did that and the shake is still in the front. Also prior to hitting the car it still had a shake just seems a little more noticeable now. I will have the tie rods checked. The car us under warranty so I will take it to alpine jaguar here in fort lauderdale and have them check the rack, inner and outter tie rods. Also, with the hiss noise I get coming from the wheel area does that sound like a rack and pinion noise?
