Default Never expected this kind of mileage!

I had to share this. I just got back into town from Tampa FL. It's about a 3 hour drive for me. And I been working on my Jag since I got it.

So far..

Plenum and Intake gaskets
Intermotor (SMP) FD-496 coil packs
NGK Laser Iridium IX plugs
Valve cover gaskets and spark plug well gaskets
Fuel Filter
44K cleaner
Cleaned throttle body
Oil filter and Castrol Edge 5w-30

She drives beautiful and like a dream! I reset the counter and left for the road. All the way to Tampa...

I think she's happy.

Oh, ya, when I picked up my '08 Satin Edition 4.2 in New Jersey and drove it back to Boston I zeroed the mileage gauge and recorded 30.3 mpg for the ~200 mi drive back. I had the cruise control set at about 70 mph and it was flat highway all the way back no stops or interruptions. A very carefully controlled trip.

Never seen anything that high since though...

The first time my wife drove our newly-acquired S-Type 3.0 on one of her solo trips to and from Tampa to visit her parents in late December 2008, I could not believe that my calculations showed that she averaged nearly 33 mpg on the interstates. So I checked her mpg again on her next trip there and back a couple of months later and damned if it wasn't completely accurate....

Had the Jaguar sales guys at the dealership tried to tell me that our S-Type would deliver this type of highway mpg, I would have called them all bald-faced liars and would then be profusely apologizing and eating crow a few months later....

Ya, Wife has a 2010 Elantra Touring and I actually get better mpg in the Jag. I have NEVER had a 6cyl get this kind of mpg. Very impressive.

The gas saved helps pay for the coolant tanks...

33.1 mpg (US gal) doesn't sound so impressive but is fairly good - maybe?

LOL! Except for me ... I'm getting screwed on both!

Blame your politicians, it's mostly due to taxes.

We have lots of fossil fuel and even more fossil fools.

I'm renting a Ford Escape with ECO-Boost at the moment. A four cylinder car with plenty of pep. I dove it all weekend and still only managed 19.1 MPG in combination city and some highway driving. Around town it's 15-17. If you need to use power to maneuver and we do in this region it still burns a lot of gas ...

This car is no mileage champion in my book but it also goes very, very well. My 2001 Sable wagon with a V6, far less power, more weight and is twice it's size did almost as good!

It's also a $34K car! I was thinking more like $25-27K.

Here, it's easier to slap a tax on than address an actual problem properly.
And then waste the tax money raised.

The S-type is very fuel efficient if driven for that purpose. It has relatively low aero drag and good mechanical efficiency. I have a lifetime fuel economy for my 2000 3.0L SE of over 28 mpg(US) and a best tankfill of 36.8 mpg on a trip to Las Vegas. On a recent trip to Texas I got several 30mpg+ tankfills despite the cold weather. Keep your tire pressures up and your S-Type in good tune and it will deliver good fuel economy.

Sadly, it's the same here in the US.

All very true. I get 30 MPG (USG) all day long at highway speeds- even using 87 octane fuel.
