New Battery - Car Won't Start
Hello All,
Details:
Wife drove car on a very cold morning. Warmed for 5 minutes in garage. Drove 12 miles, stopped at the store, started no problem. Drove additional 3 miles to work. No issues on the drive. After work, car would not crank. Battery replaced. Still won't crank. Reset Parking Brake. Still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This might seem a bit too simple. But is the gear shift fully in Park. Or, if it is in Park, then the safety mechanism that stops the car from turning over (when not in Park) may not be working.
If the above issue is fine. Then the alternator can drain the new battery if it isn't working. It might be worth having the alternator tested.
Both these problems have happened to me at different times with other cars I have owned. But others on the forum that have your model Jaguar might chime in with more specific information.
I hope this helps or, at least help kick off a discussion on your problem.

Very cold? If you mean less than 10F or so...and this is a supercharged car...you likely have hydro/ice block. Search "cracked block" for a lengthy discussion on it. "Don't worry, it's not a cracked block..that's just what the thread is called. IIRC, there is a cross-link to a more recent thread in that one to a similar occurrence on an XJ, also supercharged. Nobody can agree on the cause nor a prevention...but if that is it and you get it in a heated garage for some hours, you'll be fine.

You may be (likely are) right, Mikey. I thought the original posting was an STR...."cracked block" I believe was the title...I see what you did there....you're baiting me to go look it up and post the link.....and...it'll probably work...but not til I eat some lunch!!!
I think we agree all such suspected events have been confined to supercharged cars?

Both of our memories are shot. It WAS an STR, but the thread was "Broken Rod"

Possibly a hydrolocked engine after all. Haven't all the XJ cases been in Michigan also?
