New to Jags - Questoins...
Hi guys/gals,
I am about to close a deal on a 2003 S-Type R with about 40K miles on it.
Since I am new to this car, and know just the basics about it, I would like to get any useful advice and tips from those of you that already own this type of vehicle.
There are so many questions that I have, that I cant even list, but just a few of them are:
- what should I look for when I go to the dealer (leaks, brakes, electronics, noise...etc)
- any major recalls on this year (2003)
- should I ask for a factory warranty, or after market one
- how good is this vehicle in terms of reliability
- where is the Achilles spot of the S-Type R
Like I said, I am new to the vehicle, but as most of you here in the forum, I am a car enthusiast and love high performance cars.
I have been around other car forums for a while and I know the rules of SEARCHING, which I will do, but I am under the circumstances that I don’t have a lot of time to do my research.
I would appreciate any input.

Welcome, I own a 03 str. I love the car and really enjoy driving it.

I can't really say, I bought it in sept. of 06. I did get a 2 year warrenty thru the dealer though and it came in handy when my supercharger had to be replaced (not very common) and my front caliper froze up.
what went wrong?

at how many miles did that happen and how often do you do your oil changes ? Pricey repair I bet ~

I was covered by the warrenty. Milage was around 52K. I have only put about 5K on it since I got it in sept. of 06 but had the oil done at around 2500 mi. after I got it. The oil is super clean, no issues there.
