New Member with Jaguar problems '00 V6
thanks Amadauss for replying. Yes, I replaced the three way breather hose as well as the gaskets. I changed the valve gaskets 10,ooo miles or so. I thought I'd change them again since the spark plugs were filled with oil.I did put gasket seal. I torqued everything right,I had a layout of everything. I turned on the car again and there was smoke on the drivers side between the covers and manifold. I dont know if that has anything to do with it either. I also noticed that the rpm stayed at 500.It started up at 1.5 then slowly went to 500. I'm taking my data and info to some shops and see what they say. hopefully I could get some tips or a good price for a fix so I could get the car running and give the car back to my mom. She hates my V8 for commuting.
The fan may be a clue. First check/swap its relay(s) & fuse(s).
Once you're 100% sure they're good, there's a bunch of thinking to do about why the PCM would or would not command it on.
On the cutting out, can you describe it more? Like what revs are there between start and stop? Any noises? How long from engine start to stop? Etc.
With an OBD tool that can show live data, first I'd check all the vital sensors since if any lies the PCM will be out of control of the engine (that could include the fan of course). Any leak will also be a problem and (long term) fuel trims will show them.
A clue as to the kinds of vital sensors is here OnBoardDiagnostics.com - Engine Basics

A friend at a shop told me about this auto shop where they specialize in Jaguars(which I had no clue it existed here in my area). I took it there and they said they would do a diagnostic. I called back and said the engine was good It was the torque converter that went bad. They're going to call me back for the price$$$ but I can't complain. Its a Jaguar.
Something weirdly wrong. Wasn't it already rebuilt for 1500?
It's a really common trans, Ford 5R55N, doesn't need a jag place, better at a good trans shop. (If it's really the trans.)

sorry Jagv8 the transmission wasn't rebuild. a shop charged me 700 to take off the transmission and 1500 to rebuild it but I wasn't sure it was that but now that they told me the engine is good and that it may be the transmission I'll have to find a good transmission shop for a good price. My mom called me and said that her friends BF is charging her 1200 with a year warranty. Should I go for it?
JagV8: Could I just drain the oil and add new oil? Do you think It would make a difference without rebuilding it? I went to a few shops and they suggested the same 3000$ dollar charge. If that won't work then I'll have to save my money for the rebuild. Thanks
