New member looking for 2000 S-Type Fuel System Parts
I have a 2000 S-Type V6 -- owned from new. Now have potential life-threatening (for my car) check engine light.
Local Jag dealer did ran diagnostics and ran a smoke test and determined that it's likely a problem with one of four hoses on the fuel tank. They did nit go any further because the parts are no longer available through their system.
I've managed to locate three of the four hoses, but cannot find the fourth -- a fuel return hose (Part Number XR817571)
If I can't locate that part, there's no point in taking the next step in a repair and I'll have to junk the car.
Hard to say without codes?
Used parts are probably the way to go if Jaguar can't supply the part.
Maybe take look on EBay to see what you can find?

Thanks for reply. When you say "codes" ... you're talking about the diagnostic codes?

Yes. Hopefully the full codes are listed on the repair paperwork the dealer gave you.
We are looking for a 5 digit code, a single letter followed by four numbers, such as P0442. Sometimes you may see an expanded code with a dash and additional digits, such as P0442-011 or something like that. Either number will do.
Don't panic if a line has failed and the dealer cannot get a replacement through their official channels. Typically, damaged sections can be replaced by splicing in new sections. You may also find it's time to take the car to an independent garage versus the dealer. The dealer is limited in how they can do repairs. It's usually the official method (replace the part with brand new) or nothing at all. An independent shop has a lot more methods of repair at their disposal. That could mean repairing the line or installing a serviceable used part.

Thanks Karl,
That was good feedback. i have a couple of local guys I will try. Thanks for your comments which helped claw me back from the edge of dispair!
Sometimes you just have to get 'good-used-parts' for these older cars.
Sometimes you have to repair the old parts. I have had to cut ends off obsolete hoses and 'remake' them to get them functioning again.
I have had to make parts for old British cars due to NO AVAILABILITY of replacements.(eg. MGs and Triumphs are LONG GONE for some parts)
Modify a similar part or start from scratch might be the way we keep these running?

Thanks. I'm not sure which part I'll need but I'm going to check with a local mechanic.
