Hello all from Michigan! I'm on the hunt for a nice STR, and have found one that I like in Michigan. Its a Silver 2003 STR , all stock and well documented. Two owners since new. 84K on the clock.

Two issues that bother me, droopy headliner (behind the sunroof) and more concerning is the oil use 1-2 quarts between changes. The car uses synthetics since new, and is changed at 8k (approx). I'd love some feedback on these issues and as well, any other insights you guys can offer.

Thanks ,

Mark

if on snow or ice, gentle is the key word, and knock it in to n as your stopping.

Synths not actually recommended (but maybe work?)

There is high crankcase pressure which forces a lot of oil into the intake tract.

With snow tires or even good all season, they handle decent in the snow. Comparable to any other rwd car with a good stability control system(BMW). And I'd say the burning oil is normal. Other than that they have little issues but in my opinion there just about as reliable as you can get in the super sedan category.

I would just plan on replacing the head liner. The car is 10 years old. We had one guy on here put a suede one in and it looked fantastic!!

If just a regular head liner you should be able to get it done for $400-$500.

That is higher than normal oil consumption but I don't think I would worry. Mine will use 1 quart in 5K-6K miles when driven hard. That's really not much oil. Of course check for leaks as it may not be burning it.

I would be more concerned if the transmission has been serviced and you need to know what the "lurch" is. Look up the Lurch and Jaguar on any search engine. Read the entire web site as the guy did a good job. Then drive the car and see what you think.

Shameless plug, but my STR is for sale with like mileage. Please see following link...

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...ry-etc-104507/

If we can agree to the right price, I will even drive it to Toledo, Ohio for you to pick up (I have friends there I have been meaning to visit for several months). If you are interested, please email me at sonictooth33@hotmail.com.

By the way, my headliner is not drooping, nor does my car leak/burn oil like the one you are considering....

I would consider the STR ^. From what i have seen and read, this guy has spared no expense in taking care of and upgrading his STR.
