Default New Owner with a tachometer Question

Just bought My Wife A 2003 S type 4.2l. 81000 miles It has a problem with the tachometer If i drive nice and easy on the throttle it has no problem its when i push hard on the throttle the tachometer goes crazy it goes all the way up the drops down to zero then after next **** goes all the way up when i say all the way up i mean slams all the way up To me it seems the tach is bad my next question is I f I change my instrument cluster with a used one will i retain my mileage info or will it be from the the one I install I could post a video if needed

You can get it repaired. Difficult to change as it's part of the security system - don't just fit another!

Thanks for answering my question that explains why a used instrument cluster is so cheap on E bay they are useless....

I hate when that happens.

Are you sure it's just the gauge that's going nuts and not actually the engine revving?

I had my tachometer replaced under warranty, and the dealer had to reprogram my keys to complete the process. So as JagV8 said, if you're doing it yourself, better to get it repaired than swapping in another one.

Look on google for "ecu" repairers. Something like BBA-Reman or ASI?
