Default New Valve Cover Gaskets, DCCV, Plugs, Belts.

Working on my 2005 S type R( Car has 70K)..


Started with Ordering the Valve Cover gasket kit ( which included Valve cover gaskets, spark plug O-rings, and new bolts) from Jagbits.

So I got the valve cover gaskets kit done, along with some Bosch iridium Plugs.
Just got done removing my old DCCV, which was not leaking. Got the new one for about $112.00 (which is also a Bocsh) but have not installed it yet.

I order the Supercharger belt and serpentine belt.


The car was running fine before I started, just doing some preventative maintenance, as I don't really drive her doing the winter months.

1. Now since I have the car apart, I was thinking; should I go head and replace the water pump?

2. Is there anything else I should include in this preventative maintenance?

Once I am completely done I will do quick write up of what I did, where I got the parts and how much each part cost me.

My next big project around 80K will be the the hose under the Supercharger.

I would just do the water pump with the supercharger pulled. Other things to think about if they haven't been replaced yet or recently: fuel filter, cabin air filter.

thanks.

So you recommend I do the water pump, when I do the hose under the supercharger.. got it..

So in this maintain run, I will add the fuel filter and cabin air.

Any other suggestions?

On the STR water pumps cause no problems and I would not change it.

You are smart to think about the hose under the SC because that $20 hose requires a BUNCH of labor!!! I have all the parts so if/when it happens I am ready. I should go ahead and change it but will wait!!

Also be aware the Jaguar changed the SC/FEAD belt setup sometime in 2005 and they also had a TSB for the squeaking SC/FEAD belt when cold. So check if the SC/FEAD belt has ribs on one side or both. The updated setup is doubled sided ribs on the belts. The update requires several pulleys to be changes and both belts. This was done on my 2005 STR under warranty and completely fixed the noise.

The TSB is attached if you want to read it. All part numbers are in it too.

Does your car squeak on cold start up?? I did not notice a squeak until the temperature dropped below 50 F.

I got all my parts from Dan at Nalley Jaguar. They have always beat anybody else. Tell them you are on the forum. Free shipping and a 15% discount make a difference!

Don't forget to change the air filter too.

I am in California so it only gets down to 50 degrees occasionally where am located. However I have never heard her squeak at me.

The current belt in the car has ribs only on one-side. The belt I order is the Goodyear gaterback 4080521, as recommenced by Goodyears website.


So if my belt in not squeaking( or possible never squeaked becuase of the temp not getting below 50), should I update the pulleys, or just let it be? I am thinking let it be, not broke don't fix it


I have a KNN panel in there and am working on a intake tube, but might wait for QWizetk to get his finished,as he is a few steps ahead of me.

If it's not bothering you or your car does not do it. I would leave it alone. Mine was pretty slight and I thought it was a belt. The car was under warranty at the time so I mentioned it. With the TSB the dealer knew what the problem was and installed everything.

I think it's expensive if not under warranty. Someone got all the parts and I think it was $500 or so??

It is always a good idea to check the pressure level in the a/c system as well. You might be able to see if it is leaking at all yet.

Otherwise it looks like you got everything under control!

Hi,

when you say the pressure of the ac, I assume you mean connecting some manifold gauges.. I have some r22 and r410, but do not have any r134 gauges, otherwire I would check the AC pressure/system, but I will keep that in mind becuase I know summer is ahead. thanks.
