Many thanks to everyone, I was enlightened and terrified in almost equal quantity, and took S-Type's wise counsel and invested in an iCarsoft Scanner, but find - like my previous cheap one, - that it can’t get the ECU to talk via OBD2 port. My key/remote genius had the same problem too! Would I be right in thinking that I’ll have to rob the 4 year old grandchild's university fund to have the ECU replaced, or is there a cheaper option? I’ve heard tell of re-flashing, but every time I’ve come across that, someone gets locked up and put n the SORegister! Any ideas most welcome. I expect I should have started a new thread, but felt that most of the peculiar behaviour I’ve experienced with the car might just be attributable to the ECU. But then what would I know?

 

Do NOT replace the PCM (aka "ECU" ). At most, open it in case water has got in.

But chances are it's the tool / software for it.

You also have ECUs for the DSC (ABS) and various other things. They're likely to be OK.

Wheel speed sensors & wiring are far more iffy.

Even an elm327 (about £5) will chat to the PCM.

What would be the point? 3 year subscription to the Guardian, Job done, Tesco's (supermarket chain) Shelf stacker, with the Job title of Assistant Manager. Like the 1000,s of other Graduates.
Which iCarsoft Scanner, did you purchase?
You have the earlier Jaguar Software 2001. Later devises may not be completely compatible for all the code issues.

Do you mean i930 v LR1,2 or 3?

 

Absolute beginner, but it’s just a plain ole 930i, no other LRs, 1's 2's or 3’s!
