Noisy power steering pump - 2001 Jagaur S-Type 3.0L V6
Hi all,
My x200 has recently developed a noisy power steering pump, i've checked the power steering fluid level which appears fine.
I've read about the additive and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with it/used it with a 2001 s-type? I've seen people use it with their x-types and i'm pretty certain it'll be fine for my car but would like to hear people's experiences with it.
Cheers.

You might want to take a look at the following thread to see if a complete flush of the P/S system and a refill with high mileage ATF might help quiet your pump:

The JLR additive is intended to lubricate internal seals in the steering rack and eliminate a squeeking noise being transmitted up the steering column; it may not be a cure-all for your noisy pump,

For a noisy pump, do a quick inspection. Use a breaker bar on the serpentine belt tensioner and hold it loose with one hand. With your other hand, spin the pump pulley by hand. It should turn smoothly, no rough spots. While turning the pulley, try to move shaft fore and aft. If you get any axial play like this, you've probably got a failed bearing in the pump. No special fluid or additive is going to have any effect on that.
On my '02, the PS pump recently started making some noise. I inspected it as above, and found some axial play. Curiously, it immediately quieted down after that. The marginal bearing must have realigned itself internally, but I'm sure it's only temporary. Replacing the pump is on the plan for this weekend.
