o2 sensor reset & engine light comes back on
01 jag s type,4.0 this is a very long story but here is the condensed version. radiator overflow tank failed car overheated & engine jumped time, i got mad at wife, didnt make me feel any better , i knew motor had to be trashed , saved for 1 year to purchase new used moter , did the swap, motor ran great for 2 weeks , then wife drove through standing water from heavy rains, completly blew apart motor , got made at wife , still didnt make be feel any better , but was covered under insurance , go figure, got $10,000, for damage , bought a new used low milage engine , car runs great , remind wife daily wash gauges and high water LOL ,
i took car to have engine light reset , only stayed off for 15 min , codes say left bank o2 sensor. I replaced front and back o2 sensor on left bank, went to get reset and engine light stayed off for 45 min, now engine light is back on. engine still runs great !! any idea's ??

According to the information i was given at a local fix all shop was left bank o2 sensor, Maybe what im hearing is there is maybe more sufisticated equipment out there that would give me more detailed information (detailed codes? ) . This may only be available at a Jag service garage ?? If this is true the closest one for me is 120 miles away , but i would be willing to make a trip if i could get to the root cause of why the engine light keeps coming back on ? any additional information you have would be great. I am a Mr fix it myself and want to avoid espensive repairs . I changed the o2 sensors but that seams very straight forward.

Diagnostic (OBD) equipment comes in many types - have a search round the net.
With even half-way decent stuff you can record the data and graph it. I'd want to watch the O2 waveforms and look on the net at what they should look like.
The most jag-specific OBD for ordinary mortals sounds to be autoenginuity.
Might you have swapped the wrong O2 sensor(s)? "Left" depends where you stand
Also, the front & rear sensors are of different types, I believe, and it would be a disaster to use the wrong type.
If you haven't already, read up on "drive cycle". Also, make sure you have JTIS and have studied it.

i believe you have me on the right track, with each sensor driver left front and back i never noticed any change in idle or performance, i just got off the phone with local jag mech. He says he has the correct diognostic equipment to read the code. I plan on taking the car to him. thx for the input
