Old Topic - New Twist
Sorry to bore everyone, but I need to get some input to hopefully avoid an expensive repair.
I own a 2003 S-Type V-6, 3.2, approx. 70K miles. That "resonating" or "whine" has developed in the rear end. We have done all the trial and errors to narrow it down without success (ie., changed fluids, moved wheels). The one deviation from the other postings I have read is that we cannot recreate the noise while the car is on the lift.
We have been hoping it is just the wheel bearings, but after reading all the posts related to a rearend noise and the TSB #205003 (installing new axle assembly & axle housing bushing), I am looking for more opinions before spending the money on the wheel bearings.
Thanks.

I had my rear differential replaced last year under warranty. The dealer was able to reproduce the problem on a lift. If your technician can't reproduce the noise, then I would be inclined to think it was a bearing issue.
