Default P0174 Help.

Hi i read through the faq and have the pdf that lists the parts, the thing is having trouble finding what i need.

I got the error codes p1111 and P0174 so i took my car to my mechanic and had him do a smoke test on the vacuum system, do to the suggestions posted in the forum. He came back and said that i need new upper intake gaskets, a new Purge vacuum line and a brake booster line. He wanted to charge me some $750 for the repair and honestly i think that's insane. I am now trying to find the aforementioned parts but having a real problem finding what i need. Any help would be much appreciated. Boring bit car is a 2005 s-type 3.0l

Welcome to the forum.

First I might ask you to go to the new member section and introduce yourself. After Jim (the admin) upgrades you or you post 10 times or wait 3 days, you will get full membership status and be able to use all functions of this site.

Nalley Jaguar (in Atlanta) is a forum sponser that offers great deals to forum members here. Be sure to mention taht you belong here. They also have free shipping with orders over $50.00 or $75.00 (sorry I can''remember).

As you read in the FAQ Section, I have posted a thread about the vacuums lines with colored coded pictures, with full membership, you will be able to view said pictures with descriptions. Heres the link: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-52720/

Oh I will add this, if you are replacing the upper intake gaskets, you might as well replace the lower intake gakets as well. Its only 4 more bolts and easily accessible with the upper intake removed. Both of these gasket kits are available as Fel-Pro aftermarkets at any BIG Box auto parts chain.

Also depending on mileage, I would consider replace the spark plugs, as the intake manifold has to be removed to replace them.

I would also highly recommend that you replace the IMT O-Rings. Theres a thread about in the FAQ too.

The vacuum lines themselves are dealer only as well as the GREEN IMT O-Rings.

You may just want to check if the IMT's are leaking before you go through the headaches of replacing the upper intake gaskets.

Good advice from a knowledgable s-type owner with lots of bonnet time under his belt. I'll tell you that although my engine layout is probably much different, I've replaced all of my vacuum lines with aftermarket hoses...made them myself. I reuse the Norma connectors after carefully separating the brittle plastic lines from their hold, and either used reinforced rubber with clamps, or on low vaccum/pressure lines, I just snugly slipped them onto the old Norma by itself (no clamp). I wasn't wanting to put more plastic under the hood if I could manage another option. Small hoses are much easier to swap with rubber too. I did my purge line also with a mix of small diameter and large diameter hose, the norma connectors are huge, but the line is small, and my first go at using a normal fuel line hose resulted in it collapsing since it was too flexible when it was hot, and the diameter just too large. If you use well made, reinforced/braided line, you may not have any problem with a larger exhaust recirc line.
