Parking brake winding tool s-type R electronic brake
So I've looked at plenty of posts and threads all over the internet but what I can't find is a specification for which tool fits in those two pin holes. They are tapered at the top and then get straight with an approximate diameter of 3 - 3.5 mm.
I've tried the Autozone kit and no good. That's just the problem as all of the kits don't seem to have any way to figure out if it has the tip I need.
What am I missing.?
Then there's the cable tension. I've read one long thread on here that turned into a pissing match. My brake hasn't reacted as described there. The cable WAS loose but not quite enough to slip over the hook which probably a good thing for normal operation. But after a couple of weeks now of sitting with no battery it seems to have tightened up all on it's own?
WO that cable unhooked I don't see how I'll be able to wind the caliper open wider. That goes against the fundamental operation of thing?
THe brake was release when I took the car apart though I did have a bit of a tussle getting the pads out. One side accepts the original pads which aren't all that worn but the other is way off. Neither side accepts the new pads.
So what is the specification for that two post tool?

the kit nbcat links to ebay is the same one I purchased ...it has the one that the autozone kit does not have and a couple more...it worked perfect for me...I went down the autozone path also first with no luck
Or not be able to return the pistons to the bottom of the caliper bore.
You can get this as a free loaner tool from Autozone or Oreilly. Just call first and ask if the brake piston kit is in.
Of course that IS a pretty cheap tool! Might end up using again sometime to?

the main reason I chimed in is because i went down the same path and I figured my car a 2006 str and staatsof has a 2005 the brakes should be the same...I already did the guesswork....if staatsof were closer I would gladly loan him mine
This car has the Brembo calipers and yes ... a separate mechanical emergency brake. It's not electric itself but the calipers are pulled on and released electrically.
Neither the Autozone or Advance Auto had kits with adapters that fit and I was about to flag down one of those Tool trucks but decided to stop my mechanics shop. He works on my Suburban. I didn't ask to borrow the tool just see if he an adapter that fits so I could figure out what to order. He said here take it but bring it back soon. I ended up giving him $20.
His kit is made by Sunnex and the adapter that works is Sunnex #393013 which you can look up.
The pins are 4mm in diameter and centered 20mm apart.
The fun continues though. You can't use this kit or any other really in the standard way because the shaft won't fit inside the opening. So you have to split the calipers by removing the two torx bolts and this best done with the caliper still bolted in to rear upright.
Once you have the caliper removed from the mount you can just take the big screw drive T handle from the kit and adapter to adjust it all the way back. While turning it's easy to see if you're opening or closing the gap. I beleive the two sides operate differently.
I'll post some photos later but today I need to fill and bleed the braking system. then watch the E-brakes in action as they self adjust. I beleive there's a warning about that for these Bremo E-brakes.
It's too bad this stuff is so mysterious as I wasted well over a day farting around. I should have checked with my mechanic earlier but I don't like to wear out the welcome.
At least NOW it's documented on here. I have no frickin' idea what the description for this adapter means "1 3/16" Brake Caliper Adapter"?
THe calibration reset for E parking brake on my car wouldn't work so I tried jumping my battery with my running Suburban and that straightened it right up. So maybe a new battery is in my future? But now it operates normally so I guess normal operation isn't as tough as a reset from wide open?

Good job and great pictures too!
Your right I checked the Autozone kit and no 1 3/16" adapter.
I think I used a big pair of needle nose pliers on the parking brake. So I did not need to remove the caliper.
