Default Strange Winding noise, 02 jag x-type 3.0

Hello,
Alright so I have the 5speed manual 2002 x-type 3.0. My question is does anyone else experience an odd "whirring" kind of noise while accelerating or deccelerating? I usually experience this going thru 2nd and 3rd gear and sometimes on deccelerating while in neutral. You know what hybrid sound like when it's braking? It's kind of like a whistle. But it's not always there maybe 40% of the time. I have no idea what it is and just want to be sure it's nothing abnormal. Any insight is appreciated,
Thanks

could be two things. it could be the transfer case that's low on fluid or it could be propshaft bearing going out.

Do you know the cost of replacing a propshaft bearing?

red, yours might be different but I had a winding sound similar to what you described.
took it to dealer & they said transfer case. took it to a trusted mechanic & he said it might be the wheels & tires. He also check the prop shaft & he said it is fine.
wheels & tires have been replaced since & sound is gone. i also had a wheel alignment. next is wheel bearings in the rear. but it could be just the tires. have those check first.
good luck.

Thanks rocky I'll check that out. It almost sounds like a hybrid when the noise is going but I'm confident it's one of the issues you've noted

Do you have slotted / drilled & grooved rotors and EBC redstuff pads or similar?

These type of noises have been reported with that equipment installed.

Other than that it's likely to be the TC or propshaft issue
