Default Part of the car?

'02 S-Type

Found this underneath the car on the left-center side of the front. Has to be from the car, cause I don't own anything like this.

It's like a plastic cap plug with some foam or filter element type material in the bottom. About 5/8" tall, 5/8" wide.

From the shape and the dimensions you've given, it could be the kind of plastic cap fitted to replacement hoses during shipment and storage to prevent damage to threads and then discarded on fitting the hose the the vehicle. Have you had any work done on lubrication / cooling / AC systems where the mechanic could have dropped it into the engine bay when fitting a new hose and it's eventually fallen out?

No, I don't think the mechanics where I bought this car ever touched it. Most of what I see tells me it hasn't been worked on for at least a few years.

I've seen caps like this, but smaller, but can't remember where, and on which car.

Hi 307883281600350 ,
I am with Graham on this, is your car garaged?
I am dead positive it's a cap end protector from anything tubular, hence the sponge on the inside of the cap.
I really don't think you have any problem there and I suspect as Graham says or the wind has blown it under your car from someone doing biulding or construction work, in fact the cap could be practically from any self assembly piece of garden furniture or suchlike.
I hope this helps? regards, Stu

Those (tubing) seldom have sponge. often as not the plug goes inside anyway.

Milling-cutters and drill bits packaged in tubes OTOH usually DO have foam. One might also suspect packaging for better-grade sparking plugs?

Hmm, Bill, it's an interesting dilemma!
I'm lost without knowing more.
Bulb, spark plug, hose, I really don't know as long as your baby is fine?

Fair certain it was never part of the motorcar. Just grateful he hadn't parked it over a used condom and started trying to find out where THAT might have fit..

Not to say such have never been found in the vicinity of jaguars, but not - to my still-yet Jaguar newbie ken - as a mechanical part of the motorcar. Only an inspirational one.

Which DIRECTION said inspiration flows, having, of course, to do with the enjoyment vs cost and/or pain threshold of the most recent road-trip, MOT prep ... or dealer experience ...

I need to crawl under & look. It wouldn't be for the A/C drain? But it doesn't look like it's been exposed to moisture. I have seen similar caps on engine air pumps. GM, I think, but much smaller.
