periodic overheating
So, after my 2000 S type has been sitting for a while, after it warms up to operating temps, the temperature will spike to hot. After a short period, it quickly moves back to nominal. Then often it will do it again, only to quickly move back to operating temperature. I assumed that my thermostat was sticking shut, so I got a new one and replace the old one. The first time I drove it afterwords, the car did the same thing, spiking to hot, then dropping back to norm. Anyone got any insight on what the problem is? I certainly don't want to blow head gaskets or do any other serious damage.

How quick is it jumping and going back down? If its just a couple of seconds, you may have air pockets in the cooling system. If it takes a bit longer, I would wonder if your low speed fan isn't working properly.

It shows on the cars temperature gauge, and then I get a warning on the control panel of high engine temp. It usually goes down pretty Quick but sometimes takes a couple of minutes to move. Once it starts moving, it goes back to normal in just a few seconds

I had a similar problem. It ended up being the thermostat and later the housing. If u do end up replacing yours, I would recommend getting one from Jag. The Stant I got from advance auto did not open and close in correctly. Good luck.
