Default Phoenix From The Flames

Hi.

Joined forum a couple of weeks ago. Six weeks ago bought a 119k 2001 S type v6 for 900 squid. It was on a short mot, had been sitting for 4 months and had only done 5000 miles in last two years. Thanks to advice on this forum and a lot of cold feb days out on the drive she is now sorted. Serviced engine and gearbox, cleaned brakes and replaced climate sensor. Had to refurb headlights as they were completely yellow and opaque and upgraded the bulbs. Think they came out quite well for an afternoons work. On Tuesday sailed through MOT with no advisories so pretty pleased. Need a front nearside bumper blade and some scratches dealt with to finish the outside off.
While giving her a wash and brush the guy next door asked if I had always had classic cars. He looked confused when I pointed out it was only 6 months older than his Focus!

Some Pics

Cheers

Very nice looking car. We don't see colour over here very often which is a shame. Thanks for posting!

This proves one thing: Even after 10 or more years, these cars still look newer than their years....thanks to classic style and quality paint jobs. Great Show!

Thanks guys.

In good light it looks blue. In low light dark green. A bit odd!

Default Beautiful!

Looks great. Nice work cleaning her up. Your neighbor is right, these cars have a classic look about them. Best of luck with it.

But isn't the steering wheel on backwards... :-)

What about that pedal arrangement? I've always thought I'd have no problem driving a RHD car until I saw this pic, and realized I'd need to use my LEFT foot for everything my right foot does now. What a disaster that would be! lol

So fordy - what is the official Jaguar name for your paint color?

Actually I believe the pedals are the same (I think that is the dead pedal that you're seeing).

The thing that would freek me when driving in the UK (other than roundabouts that is...) would be a manual transmission gear shift on the left.

LOL

I think the steering wheel is in the right place, just that I don't always get in the right door! I always left foot brake in autos which is fine but can cause issues when I jump back in a manual.

I think the official name for colour is Mistral Blue. Think was only offered for a couple of years on Uk s types.

Cheers

What a bargain! (Though time & effort have to be counted.)

£900 = under $1500

Not only that, but don't forget that the steering works backwards on RHD cars. Moving the wheel clockwise turn the road wheels the opposite way.

This can clearly be seen in the OP's picture where the steering wheel is turned to the right and the front wheels are pointing left.

This may sound dangerous and counterproductive, but actually helps drivers in the UK stay alert and remember to stay on the left side of the road rather than the right like God intended.

For that to be right, "God" = Napoleon. Unusual definition.

It does not matter what side the steering column is on as all the pedals and steering functions are the same. Only differences are turn signal and wiper stalks are reversed.

Having spent some time in RHD vehicles, shifting with the left hand is quite simple as you are shifting towards yourself instead of away from yourself. I only found it confusing when driving a race car with RHD and the shifter on the right side sill.

Roundabouts are a good way to keep traffic moving without traffic signals at every intersection.

Napoleon wanted people approaching each other to be on the side that is weaker since most people are right-handed and thus would find it more difficult to strike a sword blow with their left hand. LHD or RHD preference is an endless debate...

Hi Jag

I hoping so now it's passed MOT. Wasn't thinking so when it refused to start on forth day of ownership! Luckily turned out the throttle butterfly had welded itself shut to loads of crud in the body. It was the first thing i checked so after good clean was running again in 20 mins. I spent about £180 on oils and bit and pieces but still not bad if it behaves itself for a few months. The time I don't mind as I enjoy it.

Did a 150 mile trip in her yesterday and decided will benefit from front tracking and wheel balance. Got 34mpg which was a surprise and hadn't got over 26 so far.

Cheers

Andy

There are a few commonish problems you can read about on here that can be seen before they get bad using a cheap OBD tool and checking fuel trims. Worthwhile when you get a chance.

What in the hell is a 'dead pedal'?

Sounds scary. More importantly, how do I get one on my car? lol

Yeah, after I posted, I Googled / Wiki'd it. I'd never heard the expression before.

Was this an option on S-Types or strictly an aftermarket add-on?

From what I see, it is part of the vehicle design on all S-Type models and years.
