Default Planning some modifications, info appreciated

Hello fellas, I figured that instead of cluttering my intro thread, I will start this one to get some info/help on some of the stuff I want to accomplish with the newly acquired Stype which I believe we will be keeping...

Here is a list of things that will be happening in the near future;

1) HID's, 4300k (can't believe these cars didn't come with them?)

2) Disabling DRL's. --> How? Is it programmable like it is on my BMW? If so, what equipment do you need to do it. (GT1?)

3) De chroming/Blacking out. There are two things I hate, chrome and wood. Planning on removing all the bumper trim, grille and having them re-finished black to match the Sport trim.

4) Interior; How does one go about removing the wood panelling on the dashboard? Does it just pop out or is it much more involved where the dash needs to come out? Would love to refinish it in black or carbon fibre. The wood is not my cup of tea Google didn't turn up anything.

5) Is there a repair manual that can be downloaded online? Google didn't turn up anything.

That is it to start. We will go further from there. Thanks FOR ALL your help.

1) nice

2) dealer has to reprogram DRLs

3) I love chrome and the wood, but it is your vehicle!

4) look for carbon fiber kits on ebay, there are also SS kits available as well.

5) search ebay for JTIS about $10.00 or ask member androulakis (george) if he would allow you access to his data base (free)

Have fun!!! Besure to post pics along the way!!!

I have been kicking around pulling the wood out of my STR and having it sprayed a Gloss black laq like the piano black color. It's a PITA to pull the STR apart but doable.

Dependant on your budget I have a link to the company that did my wifes C63 carbon fiber stuff and it looked factory. It's on my other computer but I will post it latter.

Thanks for the answers, I wonder if my indy BMw mechanic can program my DRL's.

I want the most cost effective option for the wood, I have carbon fibre material I can use, or I can just paint it a shiny black.I've seen it before in a BMW and it looked great.

Will take pictures

Ya I did the black paint on my BMW. Currently I have a crack on my passenger's side wood that runs the whole length and I am trying to determine what to do.

You can download the JTIS manual here - named JCD-1.zip:

When in XP Mode uzip the JCD-1.zip file and run setup in the J-CD1 folder and then Double Click on the dao35 folder in the J-CD1 folder, then Double Click on CD1

Worth exactly what ya paid for it...

It's dct Motorsports that dose the custom carbon work. Cost effective is not how I would explain them thought LOL.

I really want to do the piano wood look in mine. If it was dark wood I would be ok with it but my str has the light wood and it's just not my cup of tea.

Update!!
I spent the day detailing the Jag since it had spent the last 5 mths sitting in a dark and dusty garage. I also blacked out the chrome. Let me tell you I LOVE how it looks!!! Best modification!

I Used 220 sand paper and primer and just regular black spray paint. I think it should hold up pretty well to stone chips and such.

Here are some updated shots! Best part is I also confirmed that it is a true sport model, I saw the connections going into the CATS suspension.

Looks great - nice work on the paint.

If I wanted to cover the wood trim, I'd probably opt for a wrap rather than painting over it. Easier to reverse a wrap than take off paint should your tastes change or if you go to sell it and a buyer expect/prefers wood you can tell them the OEM wood is still intact. And a wrap would give you more style options at a more reasonable price IMHO.

My STR has very dark stained wood with some purple-ish streaks in it here and there, looks very good with the black interior and midnight metallic paint. I don't know if you could find any but might be a wood style you'd like with your black car.

Suggestion - consider tinting your side markers to help achieve that blacked out type of look.

Thanks!

I have CF wrap as well that I can use, hard part for now is figuring how to take the wood off the dash. No clue as yet.

I did tint the bumper markers lightly, but need to do the actual turn signal markers next. Got too tired

Right on - I don't know offhand how to remove the wood trim across the dash - the parts over the glove box and around the cluster. It might be in JTIS. I'm guessing a soft pry tool would "pop" them off, but try at your own risk. Be very careful handling these pieces as they are thin veneer and can be very brittle.

The wood shifter surround is pretty easy to remove, it just pops off. Maybe start with that one and experiment with wrapping that first and then once you settle on a style then get everything else.

Niteshades spray would work fine on your side markers. 2 light coats.
